Virgil Verner Johansen, age 96, of Osceola, Nebraska, passed away November 3, 2022 at the Osceola Good Samaritan Society.
The family will be holding a private memorial service at a later date.
Virgil was born September 7, 1926 to Verner and Nellie (Boss) Johansen in rural Osceola. He attended school in Polk County, graduating from Osceola High School in 1944. He serve with the US Army at the end of World War II from April 26, 1945 to November 25, 1946, at the 8th Army Headquarters in Yokohama, Japan.
On May 7, 1948 he was united in marriage to Doris E. ‘Sally’ Brigham in York. To this union three daughters were born.
Since 1932 Virgil spent his life living and farming north of Osceola with his parents and his wife, Sally. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, wood working, gardening and playing Sheepshead.
He was a member of the Osceola American Legion.
Survivors include his children: Nancy Stas of Billings, MT, Jill (Bill) Engert of Rogers, AK and Deborah (Hugh) Fugleberg of Elkhorn; six grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren; sister-in-law Peg (Ron) Coffin of Shelby; nieces, nephews, cousins and good friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Sally who passed away October 29, 2021; sister Margie Johansen Inness, brother-in-law James Inness, Sr.; nephew James Inness Jr.; niece Cynthia Inness; son-in-law Nick Stas.
