Victor Allen Cottrell, age 87, of Lincoln, Nebraska, passed away July 9, 2024 at Tabitha Residence Cove House in Lincoln.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 23, 2024 at 10:00 a.m at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, 8550 Pioneers Blvd., in Lincoln with Pastor Wayne Alloway officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Special music by Vince Learned and Kellyn Wooten. Musical selections will be “Blessed Assurance”, “Great Is Thy Faithfulness”, and “They’ll Know We Are Christians By Our Love.” Pallbearers will be Craig Olson, Scott Olson, Randy Kinnee, Godlov Lekule, Keith Roberts and Nathan Kinnee. Honorary pallbearers will be Roland Felleson, Joel Roberts and Bob Boser. Interment will be in the Stromsburg Cemetery.
Victor was born October 29, 1936 in New Castle, Pennsylvania to Judson Miles and Elaine Adele (Phillips) Cottrell. He attended elementary school in Kansas and Oklahoma and graduated from Canon Falls High School in Canon Falls, MN in 1956. He then attended Trinity College in Chicago and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He received his Masters and Doctorate in Education from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
On August 6, 1960 he was united in marriage to Nancy Marie Granberg in Stromsburg. To this union two daughters were born. His career in education began as a high school teacher first in Carroll, Iowa then Beatrice, Nebraska. He was then an Instructor in the teacher prep program at UNL, Lincoln, Education Professor at Trinity College in Deerfield, IL and led Perceiver Academies for Selection Research Inc. in Lincoln. He was founder and president of Ventures for Excellence. He retired in 2008.
He enjoyed traveling, family activities, cars, rental properties, watching sports, photography and keeping up with current events.
Survivors include his wife Nancy of Lincoln; daughters: Lynnette (Darin) Olson and Cindy (Paul) Berggren, both of Lincoln; seven grandchildren: Brenna Olson of St. Louis, MO, Craig Olson of Omaha, Scott and Sarah Olson of Omaha, Leah Olson of New York, NY, Micah Berggren of Lincoln, Annika Berggren of Omaha and Tiera Berggren of Lincoln; one great grandchild: Jaylen Berggren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Miles and Elaine Cottrell; two brothers: Herbert (Elaine) and Arthur (Eileen); two sisters Helen Cottrell Hamill and Sarah Williams; and one grandchild Linnea Berggren.
Memorials are suggested to Philippi International (growth of church in China), Fox Valley Christian Center, (a camp for inner city children in Chicago area) and St. Mark’s Family Emergency Fund.
