Vernon Earl Behr, age 92, of Stromsburg, Nebraska, passed away September 17, 2021 at the Good Samaritan Society of Osceola.
Funeral services will be held Friday, September 24, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at the Evangelical Free Church in Stromsburg with Pastor Keet Redden officiating. Visitation will be held Thursday, September 23, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the church. Interment will be in the Stromsburg Cemetery. Military Rites by Stromsburg Legion Post #132.
Vernon was born May 5, 1929 to Heit and Sophia (Buus) Behr in Rock Rapids, Iowa. He attended Highland Independent rural school and graduated in 1943.
On December 28, 1951 he was united in marriage to Lois Harmelink at Reformed Church in Rock Valley, Iowa. To this union three children were born.
He was drafted into military service on January 16, 1952 and served in the U.S. Marine Corps until January of 1954. After his discharge they farmed near Rock Rapids, Iowa. They later moved to Stromsburg where he worked for various grain elevators.
He was a member of the Stromsburg American Legion Post #132 and served on the Color Guard.
Survivors include his wife Lois of Stromsburg; children Donna (Dean) of Ellijay, Georgia, Keith (Patti) of Davenport, Iowa, and Galen (Marsha) of Omaha; six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren; brother Rodney; sister-in-law Joan of DeKalb, Il; nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one granddaughter Abigail Behr Hagen.
Memorials are suggested to the family to be designated later.
