Vaughn Mickey Obituary

Vaughn Gary Mickey, age 82, of Stromsburg, Nebraska passed away December 1, 2021 at Annie Jeffrey Hospital in Osceola.
Funeral services will be held Monday, December 6, 2021 at 10 a.m. at Salem Lutheran Church in Stromsburg with Pastor Pfeifly officiating. Organist will be Sue Lehn, soloist is Jo Larson and musical selections will be "The Old Rugged Cross", "Here I Am, Lord" and "Softly and Tenderly". Pallbearers will be Brandon Larson, Andrew Mickey, Tanner Mickey, Damon Mickey, Brody Mickey, and Devin Mickey. Honorary pallbearer Mickey Larson. Visitation will be held Sunday, December 5 from 2-4 p.m. at Salem Lutheran Church in Stromsburg. Interment will be in the Stromsburg Cemetery.
Vaughn was born January 16, 1939 in Stromsburg, Nebraska to John Mickey and Ethel (Waite) Mickey. He was a member of Fairview Methodist Church. Vaughn was raised on a farm, along with his eleven siblings in the Valley. He attended District 7 school through 8th grade. He graduated from Osceola High School in 1956. He was an excellent athlete and student. He attended Midland College.
He married Bonnie Mentink on December 27, 1958 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Osceola.
Vaughn started working at the grain elevator in Osceola until 1971. He moved his family to work for his brother-in-law Ron Baker for 2 years, then took a job as grain superintendent at Farmer's Coop in Stromsburg until his retirement. He continued to help load grain trains occasionally.
Vaughn enjoyed horse racing, a variety of gaming activities, sports, family events and homemade ice cream.
Vaughn has been a member of Salem since moving to Stromsburg in 1971, and had formerly served as a volunteer fireman.
His family has always been his number one love. He was so proud of all their accomplishments. He loved watching not only his kids but his grandkids and great-grandkids play sports. He spent many years sitting in the bleachers. He also spent so much time helping care for his grandson Mickey. He had a special love for him.
He also loved his siblings, nieces and nephews; he had many and was loved by them all. We loved him so dearly and will miss him so much.
He was preceded in death by his father John, mother Ethel, brothers Louis, Jack, Bob and Don; sisters Irene Mickey, Fern Wyman, Grace Stinson and Maxine Hauser and one grandson Mickey Jordan Larson.
He is survived by his wife Bonnie Mickey of Stromsburg; six children Doug (Becky) Mickey of Columbus, Dennis (Lynette) Mickey of Lincoln, Jody (Steve) Larson of Stromsburg, JariLe Roberts of Lincoln, Daniel (Connie) Mickey of Columbus, and Darin (Lesli) Mickey of Stromsburg; his eighteen grandchildren Kelly (Kurt) Frenzen, Amanda (Mike) Enck, Andrew (Maria) Mickey, Tanner Mickey; Charina (Adam) Walker, Devin (Roxana) Mickey, Madison (Jared) Sanford, Brandon (Joleen) Larson, Ashley Larson, Chelsea (Jay) Mena, Brittney (Joseph) Bramhall, Josie (Cody) Zimmerman, Sydney (Cameron) Mickey, Brody Mickey, Morgan Mickey, Brooklyn (Aaron) Mickey and Damon Mickey; his fifteen great-grandchildren Makenna, Molly, Haley, Karlee, Lydia, Brayden, Porter, Bricelynn, Kaeson, Colter, Hadley, Rowan, Everly, Keian and Kierra and three sisters Shirley Baker, Hazel Disel and Helen Lavicky.
 Dubas Funeral Home of Osceola and Stromsburg has been entrusted with arrangements.
