Shirley Peetzke Obituary

Shirley May Peetzke, age 89, of Stromsburg, Nebraska, passed away December 18, 2023 at the Midwest Covenant Home in Stromsburg.

Funeral services will be held Friday, December 22, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Salem Lutheran Church in Stromsburg with Pastor Craig Pinley officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Musical selections will be “It Is Not Death to Die”, “In The Garden”, “Softly and Tenderly” and “Jesus Loves Me.” Pallbearers will be Jayson Peetzke, Mark Peetzke, John Peetzke, Dean Fox, Donovan Fox and Tom Nun. Interment will be in the Stromsburg Cemetery.

Shirley was born November 13, 1934 on a farm near Geneva to Harry Irwin and Bernice May (Nun) Fox. She attended country school and graduated from Geneva High School in 1951. She attended York College for two years where she received her teaching degree. She began teaching school in Bradshaw and then Stromsburg.

On August 7, 1955 she was united in marriage to Clarence Roger Peetzke at United Brethren Church in Geneva. To this union two sons were born. They made their home in Stromsburg. Shirley enjoyed children and babysat for 23 years out of her home.

She was a member of Salem Lutheran Church, WELCA, Sunday School teacher for the 3 year olds for 20+ years and was in charge of the Cradle Roll at church. She enjoyed her time with their camping groups, Krazy Kampers, and Leisure Lovin Sam’s. She also enjoyed flowers, fishing, and children.

Survivors include sons: William ‘Bill’ (Laura) Peetzke of Aurora and Douglas (Janet) Peetzke of Omaha; grandchildren: Jayson Peetzke of Oshkosh, Mark Peetzke of Omaha, John Peetzke of Omaha and Anastacia ‘Staci’ Peetzke of Wahoo; sister-in-law Beverly Powell of Juniata; nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Clarence who passed away May 24, 2022; parents Harry and Bernice Fox; brother Deryl Fox; brother-in-law Carroll ‘Mike’ Powell.

Memorials are suggested to the family for a bench to be placed in Buckley Park.
