Sarah Carolyn Erickson, age 89, formerly of Lincoln, Nebraska, went to heaven on December 28, 2021 at the Midwest Covenant Home in Stromsburg. She was born on May 5, 1932 to Agnar Carl & Dorothy Estelle (Ford) Anderson in Worms, yes Worms, Nebraska. She attended school in Central City and graduated from Central City High School. She went on to attend Doane College in Crete where she met Bob Erickson whom she married on August 24, 1952. Bob and Sarah had four fantastic, amazing, and beautiful children.
Sarah was a teacher’s aide for many years at Crete Public Schools. She also managed the home front while Bob fulfilled his coaching duties at Crete, then Kearney and finally at Doane College. Sarah did whatever needed to be done including: washing jerseys, making her famous Yum Yum’s for members of the teams and their families or bringing her playground whistle to games when referees were missing calls (Bob wasn’t the only one who thought they missed some calls). Sarah loved to bake, swim, shop at Hyvee, walk with friends, attend Bob’s games as well as the various events of her kids, grandkids and great grandkids. While being a coach’s wife was work it also allowed Sarah to go on many trips with the team from Texas, to Hawaii to the Bahamas. Family was everything to Sarah but she also made time for friends including the M & Ms (of which she was a founding member and known as “The Big Cheese”). Sarah was part of many Bible study groups where she met lifelong friends.
Although we miss her dearly, Sarah’s great granddaughter, Anna, summed it up best when she said, “Oh, I bet she is up there running and hopping and giving Big Bob the best hugs!”
