Ruth was born April 15, 1931, in Miltonvale, Kansas, the oldest of three sisters, to Rev. Paul William and Myra Jane (Hall) Wolstenholm. She graduated from Britt High School in Iowa in 1949. Ruth attended Northwest Nazarene College and Samaritan Nursing School in Nampa, Idaho with a degree in nursing in 1953. In Nebraska she worked at the Stromsburg Hospital, York General Hospital, Annie Jeffrey Hospital in Osceola and 17 years as Director of Nurses at the Midwest Covenant Home in Stromsburg.

She met her husband Sydney through Jeannette and Kenny Hanson and Donnie Gleason. They were engaged on July 4, 1955 and married October 1, 1955 at the Bethel United Brethren Church south east of York. To this union two children were born. They were married for 56 years before the passing of Sydney on December 29, 2011. Ruth moved to the Stromsburg Assisted Living in July of 2016 and to the Midwest Covenant Home in August of 2022, where she resided until her passing.

Ruth and Syd enjoyed their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and going to flea markets.

Ruth served her Lord Jesus faithfully by loving her family and friends. Ruth always felt that working as a nurse was her mission as well as serving at the Stromsburg Covenant Church in many roles. Ruth enjoyed singing hymns, crossword puzzles and reading. She wanted everyone to have a saving faith in Jesus. She prayed faithfully for others to do so.

Survivors include her son Mark (Judy) Hanson of Benedict and daughter Karen (Jack) Vogel of Des Plaines, Illinois; seven grandchildren: Natasha (Jay) Seacrest, Shane (Merry) Hanson, Alisha (Steve) Huffman, Rachelle (Justin) Wieskamp, Shawna (Troy) Schweitzer, Eric (Aly) Vogel, Evan Vogel; and 15 great grandchildren; two brothers-in-law Doyle Nixon of Idaho and Roger Johnson of California; and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Sydney; her parents and two sisters: Dorothy Nixon and Naomi Johnson.

Ruth would say that the Lord has been faithful to care for her all her life and will be singing of the goodness of God in heaven.
