Rosella Julia Gabriel, age 92, of Stromsburg, Nebraska, passed away April 2, 2025 at the Midwest Covenant Home in Stromsburg.

Memorial services will be held Tuesday, April 8, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Vincent’s Catholic Church in Osceola with Father Allan Phan officiating. Visitation will be held Monday, April 7 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the church with 6:00 p.m. Rosary. Organist will be Paul Cerny. Musical selections will be “On Eagle’s Wings”, “Prayer of St. Francis”, “Be Not Afraid”, and “How Great Thou Art.” Pallbearers will be Austin Gabriel, Courtney Gabriel, Jessica Gabriel, Dillon Gabriel, Devin Gabriel, Trenton Gabriel, Kalin Gabriel, Taytum Gabriel, Hannah Vokoun, Rachael Vokoun, Grant Witthoff and Phillip Witthoff. Honorary pallbearers will be the great grandchildren. Inurnment will be in the Osceola Cemetery.

Rosella was born December 28, 1932 in rural Silver Creek to Julius Andrew and Alberta (Glaubitz) Cerny. She attended school and graduated from Osceola High School in 1951. She taught country school in rural Polk County before moving to Peoria, IL where she worked at a flower shop and did factory work.

On September 6, 1962 she was united in marriage to Donald Gabriel. To this union four children were born.

Rosella worked at various places including Good Samaritan Society in Osceola and the Osceola Public Schools. In 1985 she moved to Lincoln and was manager of the Salvation Army, retiring in the late 1990’s. She moved back to Osceola for a short time before moving to Iowa to be near her daughter. She moved back to Nebraska living in Hickman, Fort Calhoun Assisted Living and eventually moved to the Assisted Living in Stromsburg, then into the Midwest Covenant Home on March 25, 2022.

She was a member of St. Vincent’s Catholic Church in Osceola, Altar Society and was a Scout Leader. She enjoyed gardening, canning food, reading and puzzles.

Survivors include her children Joe (Nikki) Gabriel of Sheldon, IA, Juliana (Kurt) Gabriel Kelley of Chelsea, IA, Chris Gabriel of Osceola and Andrew Gabriel of Osceola; 12 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; brother David Cerny of Osceola; sisters Alberta (Gordon) Novacek of Colorado and Mary Ann Way of Columbus; and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents Julius and Alberta; brothers Alvin Cerny, Julius Jr. Cerny and Nicholas Cerny: three sisters Irene Schmid, Dorothy Czarnick and Vera Beck, and several nieces and nephews.

Dubas Funeral Home of Osceola and Stromsburg has been entrusted with arrangements.
