Roger Paul Johnson, age 82, of Stromsburg, Nebraska, passed away November 13, 2019 at York General Hospital, York, Nebraska
Funeral services will be held Monday, November 18, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at the Evangelical Free Church in Stromsburg with Pastor Keet Redden officiation. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Pianist will be Roni Branting.  Soloist will be Marla Teegerstrom. Musical selections will be "Amazing Grace", and "The Old Rugged Cross." Pallbearers will be Sheb Johnson, Ted Johnson, Quinn Peterson, Brent Peterson, Clay Zimmerman Colton Rhodes and Gage Rhodes. Honorary pallbearers will be Eric Bean, Mitch Coffey, Chris Zimmerman, Jeff Rhodes, and Abe Peterson. Interment will be in the Stromsburg Cemetery.
Roger was born March 13, 1937 in Stromsburg, Nebraska to Theodore Paul and Bernice Lucille (Peterson) Johnson. He attended country school west of Osceola and graduated from Osceola High School in 1954.
On November 6, 1953 he was united in marriage to Ella Mae Gulbrandson at the Methodist Church in Stromsburg. To this union three children were born. Roger worked at several jobs throughout his life including Morrill Lumber Yard south of Stromsburg, as a farm hand, at Safeway in York and Commerce City, Colorado for four years where he worked on a hog range. The family returned to Stromsburg where he worked for Farmers Coop Assoc. in Stromsburg for many years then at Durant Grain Elevator west of Stromsburg. In 1974 he began working for the State of Nebraska Dept. of Roads until 1999. He then went to work for A. Rue Cattle Company until retiring in 2015. Roger liked working with and raising livestock throughout his whole life.
Roger enjoyed playing cards, and loved to have coffee uptown.
Survivors include his wife Ella Mae of Stromsburg; son Faran (Julie) Johnson of Grand Island; daughter Sheryl (Chris) Zimmerman of Superior; brothers DeVerne (Jeri) Johnson of Platte Center, MO, Arlette (Jane) Johnson of Hampton, Royal (Jenny) Johnson of Kansas City, MO and sister Marvelle Kaltenbach of Dallas, Oregon; eight grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren and 4 step-great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by daughter Christine Bierhaus; parents; brothers Merle and Waldean.

Memorials are suggested to the Stromsburg Fire and Rescue.
