Richard Allen Olson, age 69, of Stromsburg, Nebraska, passed away October 9, 2021 at Annie Jeffrey Memorial County Health Center in Osceola.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 13, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Stromsburg with Pastor Neil Kloppenborg officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior the service at the church. Masks are suggested but not required. Organist will be Mary Anne Guggenmos. Congregational selections will be "How Great Thou Art" and "Amazing Grace." Pallbearers will be Steve Lindquist, Myron Bernt, Rick Georges, Marlowe Johnson, Willy Waller and Scott Johnson. Interment will be the Stromsburg Cemetery with Military Rites by Stromsburg Legion Post 132.
Richard was born January 17, 1952 in Stromsburg, Nebraska to Conrad Nathan and Mildred (Tlamka) Olson. He attended school in Stromsburg graduating from Stromsburg High School in 1970. He then attended tech school in Milford. His schooling was interrupted when he joined the Army in 1972 where served as an M.P. in Nuremberg, Germany. He then returned to school and received his degree in 1974.
On September 13, 1975 he was united in marriage to Kathy Marie Dahle at the United Methodist Church in Milford. To this union three children were born. He worked for Nuttelman's Co-De Auto Sales as a mechanic until in 1977 when he purchased the Sinclair station in Stromsburg and owned and operated "Olson's Standard" for many years.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Stromsburg Legion, former Stromsburg Fire Department volunteer and a former Boy Scout leader. He enjoyed working at his shop, attending car shows, having coffee with friends, camping, watching the History Channel, RFD and the Military channel.
Survivors include his wife Kathy of Stromsburg; children Alissa (Mark) Kahler of Stromsburg, Adam (Gloria) Olson of Fairmont and Arik Olson of York; sisters Bonnie (Ron) Harvey of Swanee, GA, Janet Ready of Hastings, Janice (Russell) Jacobsen of Lincoln; brothers Roger (Sue) Olson of Lincoln and Orwin (Betty) Olson of Lincoln, nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother-in-law John Ready.
Memorials are suggested to the family to be designated later.
