Richard T. Johnson, born on January 18, 1935, to Charles S. F. and Minnie Swanberg Johnson at the family farm east of Stromsburg, and lived a life deeply rooted in his hometown of Stromsburg.
Richard attended Blue View District 56 School for eight years before starting 9th grade at Stromsburg High School in the fall of 1948. Throughout high school, he excelled in football, basketball, and FFA, graduating in the spring of 1952.
Post-graduation, Richard devoted his time to both the family farm, assisting his father, and part-time employment at Johnson’s Service. From 1954 to 1960, he proudly served his country in the Nebraska National Guard, 134th Division, stationed in York.

Richard's spiritual journey began in his youth when he accepted Christ as his Savior during a special meeting with Carl W. Nelson under the ministry of Pastor Philip Thorn. Baptized by Pastor Russ O’Hara, Richard actively served his community, contributing to the Polk Camp Board, the Building Committee for the Free Church in 1971, and the board of Stromsburg Baptist Church.
