Raymond Watts Obituary

Raymond Charles Watts, age 85, of Osceola, Nebraska, passed away September 23, 2021 at Annie Jeffrey Memorial County Health Center in Osceola.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 29, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Osceola with Pastor Teri Lucas officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, September 28 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the church.  Musical selections will be "On Eagle's Wings", "Amazing Grace, My Chains Are Gone", "Even Though I'm Leaving". Pallbearers will be the grandchildren: Logan Watts, Brandi Watts, Miranda Ericson, Luke Ericson, Peyton Watts, Mollie Rathjen, Thad Rathjen, and Carson Watts. Interment will be in the Osceola Cemetery with Military Rites.
Memorials are suggested to the family to be designated later.
Raymond was born September 9, 1936 to Edward Earl and Neola (Wisely) Watts in Osceola. He attended country school near Osceola and graduated from Osceola High School in 1954.
He served in the United States Navy from September 11, 1954 until his discharge on September 10, 1962.
On December 9, 1964 he was united in marriage to Sharon Kay Abbott at the First United Methodist Church in Osceola. To this union three children were born.
After returning from the service he worked at Grand Lake, Colorado doing maintenance at a resort. He then moved back to the Osceola area and began his career in construction working for Mamco Building, Mark Gustafson Construction, and then began working with Al Yungdahl at Al's Paint Supply and together they started Builders Supply in 1965. Ray purchased the business from his partner in 1971. He continued operating the business until 2008 when he retired.
He was excellent at woodworking and making cabinets. He was a Nebraska Huskers football fan, enjoyed attending kids and grandkids sporting activities. He spent time in nature enjoying camping and gardening. He was a high school basketball referee and for many years served on the Osceola Bulldog chain gang for football games.
Survivors include his wife Sharon of Osceola; daughters Penny (Doug) Rathjen of Osceola, and Polly (Jeff) Sindelar of Estes Park, Colorado; son Toby (Evette) Watts of Osceola; grandchildren: Logan (Brandi) Watts of Osceola, Miranda (Luke) Ericson of Osceola, Peyton Watts of Osceola, Mollie Rathjen of Osceola, Thad Rathjen of Osceola, Carson Watts of Osceola; great grandchildren, Kendall and Kade Watts of Osceola; two brothers Dick Watts of Burwell and Don (Joy) Watts of Clarks; one sister Dottie (Bob) Vrbka of Leshara; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother and sister-in-law Edward (Merridel) Watts; sister-in-law Delores Watts.
