Phyllis Marie Flodman, age 89, of Seward, formerly of Stromsburg, Nebraska, passed away November 5, 2024 at Ridgewood Rehab and Care Center in Seward. Heaven took one of the ‘Best’.
Funeral services will be held Friday, November 8, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at Dubas Funeral Home in Stromsburg with Pastor Wayne Nestor officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Musical selections will be “The Old Rugged Cross”, “I Can Only Imagine”, and “Blessed Assurance.” Pallbearers will be Jesse Bjerrum, Clint Peterson, Kyle Flodman, Jared Mapes, Eric Allen, and Jared Flodman. Interment will be in the Stromsburg Cemetery.
Phyllis was born September 1, 1935 in Central City, Nebraska to Carl E. and Alice Marie (Landers) Best. She attended school in Central City and graduating from Central City High School in 1953.
On December 20, 1953 she was united in marriage to Burdette Arlyn Flodman. To this union four children were born. They lived on the farm north of Polk where Phyllis was a farm wife, cooking, raising the family and helping on the farm. In the 1970’s she was owner of The Snack Shack” in Polk. In 1975 they moved to Stromsburg. Later in the 1990’s she was co-owner of Benedict Keno with her husband. Over the years she worked at various businesses in Stromsburg. Phyllis was co-owner of “Unique Silverwear” with her daughter Becky.
Phyllis had great joy driving around in her 1964 Volkswagon. She enjoyed golfing and was a charter member of Ryan Hill Country Club, where she also served as a board member. She was a member of the Polk Legion Auxiliary, the Polk Methodist Church, serving as Sunday School teacher. She later transferred her membership to the Stromsburg United Methodist Church.
Survivors include children: Randy (Michelle) Flodman of Hickman, Becky (Mark) DeBoer of Seward, Sheila (Dwayne) Nelson of York, daughter-in-law Cindy Flodman of Grand Island; 12 grandchildren and many great grandchildren; sister Ida (Coover) Killham of Lincoln and sister-in-law Marilyn Best of Windsor, CO; and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Burdette ‘B.A’ who passed away March 12, 2020; son Thomas N. Flodman; parents Carl and Alice Best; brothers Wayne (Clarice) Best and Don Best; brother-in-law Paul Coover.
