Palmetta Matuszek Obituary

Palmetta Matuszek, age 88, passed away October 24, 2023, at Good Samaritan Society in Osceola.

Funeral services will be held Friday, October 27, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Osceola with Pastor Raleigh White officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Organist will be Louise Wheeler. Musical selections will be "I Was There To Hear Your Borning Cry", "I Know That My Redeemer Lives" and “Danny Boy.” Pallbearers will be Reggi Urban, Jon Tindall, Clayton Tindall, Nic Beck, Tyler Harris and Cody Vavra. Interment will be in the Osceola Cemetery.

Palmetta was born November 7th, 1934, in Shelby, Nebraska, to Roy and Aurelia (Albers) Lyon. She spent most of her childhood in Shelby with brief periods in Columbus and Omaha. She graduated from Shelby High School in 1951. Palmetta married her first husband, Jack Tindall Sr., on December 5, 1951, and to this union three children were born. She spent many years as a homemaker helping on the family farm northwest of Osceola and caring for her children. After their divorce, Palmetta attended Central Community College and was part of their first graduating class receiving her degree in accounting. Throughout the years, she held various jobs as a receptionist, office manager, and bookkeeper in the agriculture industry. Palmetta met Richard Matuszek and they were united in marriage October 27, 2001.

Palmetta was a woman of many hobbies and talents. She was an avid reader from an early age . She loved to travel with many trips abroad and across the U.S., detailing her adventures in postcards to loved ones and photo albums. Palmetta was skilled with a needle and thread making clothes for her children when they were young and later on cross-stitching many beautiful pieces displayed in her home. She was an enthusiastic fan of Husker football and volleyball, her favorite baseball team the Cubs, and the many activities her grandchildren and great-grandchildren took part in.

Those left to cherish her memory include her three children: Jack (Bonnie) Tindall of Osceola, Pat (Sue) Tindall of Osceola, and Peggy (Chris) Caley of Silver Creek; eight grandchildren: Jenny Tindall of Columbus, Jon (Nikki) Tindall of Omaha, Jody (Scott) Johnson of Stanton, Clayton Tindall of Norfolk, Andrea Urban of Bennington, Reggi (Stacy) Urban of Silver Creek, Pamela (Nic) Beck of Clarks, and Meshelle (Tyler) Harris of Polk; fifteen great-grandchildren: Cody Vavra, Autumn Tindall, Jena Augustin, Aurelia Tindall, Piper and Sydnie Johnson, Hannah, Josie and Colt Urban, Jackson and Alyce Beck, Jaylynn Johnson, William, Lacey, and Ryder Harris; and her beloved cat Morrie.

Palmetta was preceded in death by her parents, Roy Lyon and Aurelia and Bill Alcorn; her husband; and great grandchildren Jaydon Tindall, the twins, Dalton and Taylor Johnson and Dean Beck.

Memorials are suggested to the Osceola Library or the Food Bank of Lincoln. 

Dubas Funeral Home of Osceola and Stromsburg has been entrusted with arrangements.
