Neil Boardman Brigham, age 99, of Shelby, Nebraska, passed away July 11, 2021 at David Place in David City, Nebraska.
Funeral service will be held Wednesday, July 14, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Shelby with Pastor Teri Lucas officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Organist will be Kim Voss. Musical selection will be "Amazing Grace." Pallbearers will be Kevin Uhler, Shane Augustin, Adam Classen, Ross Miller, Mike Koraleski, Jonathan Caniglia, Jeff Scow and Brent Brigham. Interment will be in the Shelby Cemetery with Military Rites Shelby Legion Post.
Neil was born August 22, 1921 to Ray and Hazel (Boardman) Brigham on the family farm northwest of Shelby. He attended Dist. #14 grade school and graduated from Shelby High School in 1939. Following high school he worked at McDonald Douglas Aircraft plant in Long Beach, California. Neil enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps in September 1942. He served with the 85th Depot Repair Squad. His foreign service included North Africa, Italy, France and Germany. He received a Good Conduct Medal and two Battle Stars. He was discharged in December 1945. Neil returned to Shelby to farm his mother's farm 10 miles northeast of Shelby.
On August 28, 1946 he was united in marriage to Roberta Johnston at the York Methodist Church. To this union three daughters were born. The family resided on the farm for 35 years until they moved into their new home in Shelby in 1981. They were snowbirds and wintered in Florida and Arizona.
Neil enjoyed golfing, fishing and playing cards.
He was a lifetime member of Shelby United Methodist Church and a longtime member of Shelby American Legion Post #296.
Survivors include his children: Jacky (Bill) Uhler of Central City, Bonnie (Don) Augustin of Shelby, Pam (Mark) Caniglia of Omaha; six grandchildren: Kevin (Laurel) Uhler, Shane (Kelli) Augustin, Sarah (Adam) Classen, Justine (Ross) Miller, Anna (Mike) Koraleski and Jonathan (Colleen) Caniglia; 15 great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife Roberta; parents, and brother W. James Brigham.
Memorials are suggested to the Shelby United Methodist Church or the Shelby Library.
