Murry Alan Peterson, age 71 of Stromsburg, Nebraska, passed away December 27, 2021 at Bryan LGH East Hospital in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Funeral services will be held Monday, January 3, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at Salem Lutheran Church in Stromsburg with Pastor Brenda Pfeifly officiating. Visitation will be held Sunday, January 2 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Church. Organist will be Sue Lehn. Congregational hymns will be "What A Friend We Have In Jesus", "In The Garden" and "On Eagle's Wings." Pallbearers will be Murray Lindburg, Doyle Frazier, Larry Donelson, Lynn Johnson, Ryan Berggren, and Quinn Peterson. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren. Interment will be in the Stromsburg Cemetery.
Murry was born January 7, 1950 to Carrol Thelander and Mildred Elaine (Boden) Peterson in Stromsburg. He attended school in Stromsburg graduating from Stromsburg High School in 1968. He then attended the University of Nebraska in Lincoln for 2 years. He returned to the Stromsburg area and began farming for Neal McBeth. He later farmed with his dad, uncle Bob and brother Steve. He and Steve also raised hogs. Beginning in the mid 2000's the farming operation changed to include his son Ryan, son-in-law Roger, brother Steve and nephew Quinn.
On August 29, 1971 he was united in marriage to Jeanette Louise Johnson in the Evangelical Lutheran Church at Saronville, Nebraska. To this union three children were born.
Murry was an active member of Salem Lutheran Church in Stromsburg, and had served on the church council. He was also a member of the Stromsburg Rural Fire board and served as president for several years. He was a junior member of the Stromsburg Co-op.
He enjoyed bowling for Hogie's Heroes for many years in both Stromsburg and Osceola taking many bowling trips. He was an avid toy collector, especially enjoyed collecting pedal tractors. He loved going to toy shows. He enjoyed going to the lake, taking boat and golf cart rides. He loved doing things with his grandkids and traveling, family vacations included trying to visit all of the major league baseball stadiums of which he saw probably half. Murry was looking forward to living in their new home he designed, which is currently under construction, in the new Stromsburg Elementary Division.
Survivors include his wife Jeanette of Stromsburg; son Ryan (Chari) Peterson of Stromsburg; daughter Angela (Kevin) Holtzen of Stromsburg; daughter Amanda (Roger) David of Stromsburg; grandchildren Jaimee (Cody) Ortegren, Sydnee Goossen, Hallee Goossen, Preston Goossen, Nathan (Erin) Holtzen, Zach Holtzen, Ashton Holtzen, Reese David, Eastyn and Gunner David; great grandson Colt Ortegren; brother Steve (Linda) Peterson of York; nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
Preceded in death by his parents; brother Dennis C. Peterson and sister Luann Smith.
