Michael Dean Voss, age 74, of Shelby, Nebraska, passed away February 9, 2024 at Annie Jeffrey Memorial County Health Center in Osceola.
Funeral services will be held Monday, February 12, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at Shelby Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Andrew Litt officiating. Visitation will be held Sunday, February 11 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Dubas Funeral Home in Osceola. Organist will be Avis Rathje. Musical selections will be “Here I Am Lord”, “Only A Shadow”, “Christ Be Our Light” and “On Eagle’s Wings.” Pallbearers will be Nicholas Voss, Ryan Voss, Brett Voss, Craig Barjenbruch, Kye Kurkowski, and Jake Nekl. Interment will be in the Shelby Cemetery with Military Rites by Shelby Legion Post.
Michael was born February 3, 1950 in Sycamore, Illinois to Robert Dean and Kathleen May (Chamberlain) Voss. The family moved to the area from Illinois when he was in 4th grade. He attended Shelby School and graduated in 1968. He served in the U.S. Navy from December 4, 1968 until September 18, 1970, where he received the National Defense Medal.
On May 1, 1971 he was united in marriage to Becky Jo Nekl at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Duncan. To this union two children were born. Michael worked at Augustin Brothers feedlot, Shelby Mill and Elevator for Kenny Pope and at Farmers Coop. After retiring in 2016 at the age of 66 he started working at Golden West Feedyard where he ran a feed truck.
His favorite two things in life were spending time with his family and following his favorite sports team the Las Vegas Raiders. He enjoyed playing town team baseball for many years, he was a sports fan and also enjoyed traveling. He was a member of Ryan Hill Country Club where he enjoyed golfing.
Survivors include his wife Becky of Shelby; son Jason (Gail) Voss of Lincoln and children Jordan (Craig) Barjenbruch of Seward, Paige (Kye) Kurkowski of Hesston, KS, Nicholas (Lauren) Voss of Lincoln, Ryan (Tyonna) Voss of Lincoln and Brett Voss of Lincoln; daughter Tabitha (Rocky) Kudron of Waverly and children Julia and Cooper Kudron of Waverly; and four great grandchildren; siblings: Janice Kuhn of Lincoln, Susan (Kevin) Abbott of Shelby, Chris (Kim) Voss of Texas, Kevin Voss of Shelby and Karen Loseke of Silver Creek; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Kathleen Voss; sister Joyce Voss and brother-in-law Jerry Kuhn.
Memorials are suggested to the family to be designated later.
