Michael DeRyke Obituary

Michael George DeRyke, age 68, of Shelby, Nebraska, passed away June 27, 2022 at Nebraska Oncology and Hematology in Lincoln.

A visitation will be held Friday, July 8, 2022 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Dubas Funeral Home, Osceola. A family prayer service will be held at a later time with Pastor Neil Kloppenborg officiating. Inurnment will take place at a later date at the Nemaha Cemetery.

Michael was born April 21, 1954 to George Jacob and Dorothy Augusta (Hansel) DeRyke in Beatrice, Nebraska. He attended elementary school in Cortland and attended Norris High School. He then worked as a mechanic in Lincoln at Virginia’s Cafe. He was united in marriage to Julie Patrick who passed away in 1996.

In 1976 he moved to Shelby where Michael began working at the Coop as the tire man where he worked for 32 years, retiring in 2008.

In 2008 he was united in marriage to Jackie Lynn Leeper.

Michael then worked for Calloway for two years, Raleigh Fram as a hired man and then worked for Bob Kobza who purchased Calloway.

He was a member of the Shelby Volunteer Fire Department.

He enjoyed Mopar cars, drag racing, where he was a NHRA track champion at Kearney Dragway, Nascar, and the San Diego Chargers. He also enjoyed camping, fishing and 4-wheeling.

Survivors include his wife Jackie of Shelby; son Travis DeRyke of Lincoln, step-sons Brian Petersen of Hubble and Ryan Hanak of Richland; step-daughters Desaray Crampton of Omaha and Amelia (Daniel) Blum of Omaha; nine grandchildren including Haley Hanak who resided with him for several years; sister Karla (Wayne) Hill of Filley; brother-in-law Jerry ‘JB’ Barnard of Marysville, KS; and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Maxine (Delmer) Meints, Donna (Arnold) Shew, Ruth (Bill) Vandegrift and Betty Barnard.

Memorials are suggested to the family to be designated at a later date.

Dubas Funeral Home of Osceola and Stromsburg has been entrusted with arrangements.
