Mervin E. Ransom Jr., age 85, of Osceola, Nebraska, passed away November 7, 2024 at the Good Samaritan Society in Osceola.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 12, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Osceola with Pastor Raleigh White officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Pallbearers will be Ken Carlson, Doug Jones, Luke Carlson, Scott Anderson, Scott Watts, Keith Peterson. Interment will be in the Osceola Cemetery with Kevin Scheele, Grand Lodge Officer conducting Masonic Rites

Mervin was born May 14, 1939 in rural Polk County northeast of Stromsburg to Mervin E. Sr., and Mildred Fae (Miller) Ransom. He attended school in Shelby and graduated from Osceola High School in 1957.

On August 21, 1960 he was united in marriage to Bonnie Jane Rodene at the Osceola Methodist Church. To this union two children were born. The family lived and farmed west of Osceola for many years. Mervin later went into the insurance industry working for Scandinavian Mutual Insurance for 20 years before retiring. He moved to the Good Samaritan Society in Osceola on October 5, 2023.

He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Osceola Masonic Lodge #65 where he served in numerous positions, he joined the Scottish Rite in Lincoln and the York Rite and was also a member of Sestrosis Shrine Temple.

He enjoyed doing carpentry work, being an all around handyman. He also enjoyed music and staying busy.

Survivors include his wife Bonnie of Osceola; daughter Joni Ransom of Grand Island; son Jon (Melanie) Ransom of Hillsboro, Oregon; granddaughter Kalen Ransom; brother Greg Ransom of Henderson; brother-in-law Charles Doremus of Colorado Springs; sister-in-law AnnEtte McCormick of Colorado Springs; aunt Darlene Jensen of Lincoln and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Mervin Sr and Mildred; brother Maury Ransom; sisters: Marion Doremus, Margie (Joe) McCarthy and Valerie (Chuck) Holcomb.
