Marvin Harold Ericson, age 90, of Osceola, Nebraska, passed away January 21, 2025 at Bryan West in Lincoln.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 25, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at Salem Lutheran Church with Pastor Murray Jones officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Organist will be Sue Lehn. Musical selections will be "It Is Well With My Soul", "What A Friend We Have In Jesus", and "How Great Thou Art." Pallbearers will be Clyde Ericson, Luke Ericson, Dan Steffen, Reggie Rafert, Randy Rafert and Steve Rafert. Interment will be in the Stromsburg Cemetery with Military Rites by Osceola Legion.
Marvin was born November 8, 1934 in Stromsburg, Nebraska to Harold and Irene (Lindblade) Ericson. He attended elementary school at District 61 (Cracker Box) in Polk County and graduated from Stromsburg High School in 1952.
He enjoyed church groups of young adults, which included auto trips to Boston, Calgary, Canada, San Antonio and other places.
He lived on the family farm and worked with his father there.
In August of 1955, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, along with two of his cousins, and did 16 weeks of training at Camp Chaffee in Arkansas. He served in Korea for 16 months in the 7th division of artillery. He was discharged in April of 1957.
On August 15, 1964 he was united in marriage to Beverly Jane Olson at Ericson, Nebraska. To this union three children were born. The family remained on the family farm where Marvin grew up. Marvin was always a farmer and also raised pigs, cattle and horses at different times. He always had cats and a dog to care for.
Marvin was a lifelong member of Salem Lutheran Church in Stromsburg where he served on the church council for many years and was an usher. He was always ready to help when needed. He was also a member of the Osceola Rural Fire Board, County FSA committee and the Osceola Legion.
In his younger years he enjoyed playing softball and was on a bowling team in Osceola. He and Beverly enjoyed taking day trips all across Nebraska. Some of his favorite activities in his later years were watching his grandsons play sports and school activities.
Survivors include his wife Beverly of Osceola; son Curtis (Suzie) Ericson of Osceola, daughters Coreen (Steve) Rafert of Gresham and Christy (Dan) Steffen of West Point; grandchildren Clyde Ericson, Luke (Miranda) Ericson, Reggie (Chelsea) Rafert and Randy Rafert; great granddaughter Jessie Rae Ericson; sister Marilyn (Mert) Steele of Stromsburg; many nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Harold and Irene; and one sister Karen Ericson.
