Mardell Johnson Obituary

Mardell "Marty" Harold Johnson, age 80, of Stromsburg, Nebraska, passed away April 3, 2022 at Bryan Medical Center East, in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 7, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at the Evangelical Free Church in Stromsburg with Pastor Keet Redden officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Pianist will be Roni Branting. Soloist will be Kurt Moore. Musical selections will be "Blessed Assurance", "How Great Thou Art" and "Great Is Thy Faithfulness."  Pallbearers will be Chase Gobel, Drew Dickson, Phil Burke, Tim Teegerstrom, Justin Sunday and Randy Reese. Interment will be in the Stromsburg Cemetery.

Mardell was born January 26, 1942 to Harold A. and Beulah E. (Gestrine) Johnson in Stromsburg. He attended country school southwest of Stromsburg and graduated from Stromsburg High School in 1959. He then attended Nebraska Wesleyan University for two years. After his father passed in 1961 he returned to begin farming. On March 5, 1966 he was united in marriage to Jeannine Diane Dickson at Salem Lutheran Church in Stromsburg. To this union three children were born.

They lived southwest of Stromsburg where farming was his lifelong passion. He raised crops and livestock and was proud to have their sons join him in the family farming business. He always had a dog by his side,

He attended the Evangelical Free Church in Stromsburg.

Mardell served on the Stromsburg Coop Board, and was a current board member of the Polk County Rural Public Power District since September of 1989 and served as president from January 2007 to December 2020.

He had many interests including steam engines, toy trains, airplanes, and birds. He enjoyed working in his shop, and always had an interest in the weather. He especially enjoyed attending his children and grandchildren’s activities over the years.

Survivors include his wife Jeannine of Stromsburg; children Michelle Gobel of Lincoln, Craig (Sarah) Johnson of Osceola and Ryan (Melinda) Johnson of Stromsburg; grandchildren Chase and Alexa Gobel of Lincoln and Megan and Jadyn Johnson of Kearney; sister Mary Cotter of Osburn, Idaho; many nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Harold and Beulah and brother-in-law Web Cotter.

Memorials are suggested to the family to be designated later.

Dubas Funeral Home of Stromsburg and Osceola has been entrusted with arrangements.
