Marcella Bertha (Bernt) Zelasney

Marcella Bertha Zelasney, age 95, of Osceola, Nebraska, passed away July 9, 2023 at her home in Osceola.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 13, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Vincent’s Catholic Church in Osceola with Father Val Bartek officiating. Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 12 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the church with a 7:00 p.m. Rosary. Organist will be Judy Vrbka. Musical selections will be “Be Not Afraid”, “Here I Am Lord”, "I Am The Bread of Life”, “On Eagle’s Wings” and “Amazing Grace.” Pallbearers will be Jason Zelasney, Chris Zelasney, Chase Zelasney, Isaiah Zelasney, Ryan McConnell and Drew Weiss. Interment will be in St.Andrews Cemetery.

Marcella was born September 11, 1927 in Polk County to Hubert J. and Pauline J. (Wieser) Bernt. She attended country school north of Osceola.

On April 7, 1953 she was united in marriage to Allen Phillip Zelasney at St. Andrews Church north of Osceola in the valley. To this union six children were born. They lived on the farm north of Osceola. Allen passed away in May of 1990. Marcella remained on the farm until moving into Osceola in 2010. She enjoyed being a farm wife and mom. She worked for Girard’s Chicken House until her retirement in 2017.

She was a member of St. Andrews and St. Mary’s.

Survivors include children: Barb (Rich Sempek) Zelasney of Columbus, Theresa Zelasney of Osceola, Bob (Nancy) Zelasney of Osceola and Jerome Zelasney of Osceola; 10 grandchildren: Heidi (Ryan) McConnell, Jason (Mallory) Zelasney, Abby (Kenny) Bise, Chris Zelasney, Sandra (Josh) Weiss, Hannah (Cosme) Cham, Chase (Courney Merryweath) Zelasney, Isabel (Tyler) Schmid, Grace (fiance Jack Jakub) Zelasney and Isaiah Zelasney; 17 great grandchildren; sisters Elaine Burritt and Iona (Virgil) Hastings; brothers Marvin (Doris) Bernt, Albin (Mary Jane) Bernt; and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Allen who passed away May 1990; infant son Joseph and John; great grandson Troy; parents Hubert and Pauline; sisters Irene (Marion) Kubas, Huberta (Bernard) Schaf, Delores (Bernard) Korger; brothers Wilfred (Betty) Bernt and brother-in-law Ralph Burritt.

Memorials are suggested to the family to be designated later.
