Mabel Hinkle Obituary

Mabel Delores Hinkle, age 96 of Silver Creek, Nebraska, went to her eternal home on February 19, 2022 at her home near Silver Creek.

Funeral services will be held Friday, February 25, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Lutheran Church, Swede Home, with Pastor Sarah Ruch officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Special music will be “Blessed Assurance”, “Angels Among Us”, “I Love To Tell The Story”, “Eye of the Sparrow” and “A Mighty Fortress Is Our God”. Pallbearers will be Shane Hinkle, Jeremiah Hinkle, Steve Udey, Kerri Klein, Brian Hinkle, and Betsi Morris. Honorary pallbearers will be Les Bockmann, Richard Urban, Rod Gaedeke, Mark Wyman, Denny Johansen, Randy Pacozoa, and Dave Gembica. Interment will be in the Silver Creek Cemetery.

Mabel was born September 7, 1925 to Max F. and Elizabeth (Fritz) Grosch at St. Libory. She was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church, Worms, NE.

Mabel was six months old when she moved with her family to Silver Creek, where she lived most of her lifetime. She attended rural grade school in Merrick and Nance counties.

On October 11, 1947 she was united in marriage to Gilbert Earl Hinkle at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Central City. To this union four children were born. After raising her family she worked 25 years at Good Samaritan Society in Osceola and Midwest Covenant Home in Stromsburg, retiring in September 1998.

Mabel had many hobbies including flowers, gardening, word search, jig-saw puzzles, crocheting, sewing, reading and baking. She loved making quilts for all her children and grandchildren. She made quilts at her church for many years that were sent to World Missions.

Her dog and cat were special to her. She collected elephants and chickens.

She belonged to Pen Pal clubs and at one time had 200 pen pals.

Survivors include four children, Darlene Janet Booker of Silver Creek, Dennis Dwayne (Betty) Hinkle of Silver Creek, Janelle Elaine (Dave) Udey of Osceola and Robert Lynn (Jera) Hinkle of Kearney; seven grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandson; nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Gilbert who passed away July 19, 2009; grandson Bradyn; son-in-law Brad Booker; brothers Gottlieb, Fred and Francis; two infant brothers, Edwin and Walter; sisters Esther and Helen.

Memorials are suggested to the family or Hospice Columbus.

Dubas Funeral Home of Osceola and Stromsburg has been entrusted with arrangements.
