Lola Reetz Obituary

Lola Marilyn Reetz, age 90, passed away December 5, 2023 at Annie Jeffrey Memorial County Health Center in Osceola.

Funeral services will be held Friday, December 8, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at Salem Lutheran Church in Stromsburg with Pastor Bob Johnson officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, December 7 from 5:00 to 7:00 at Dubas Funeral Home in Stromsburg. Organist will be Sue Lehn. Musical selections will be “It Is Well With My Soul”, “Abide With Me”, and “How Great Thou Art.” Pallbearers will be Kjell Marsden, Channer Marsden, Cody Zech, Devin Gabriel, Jesse Kreycik, Brent Wolfe and Jake Runyan. Interment will be in the St. Paul Cemetery in rural York County.

Lola was born October 12, 1933 in her grandmother Gocke’s home in Waco to Herman C. and Alice D. (Gocke) Tieken. She is the third of nine children. Lola was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Waco. Lola attended North St. John’s Lutheran School and graduated as Salutatorian from Waco High School in 1951.

In her early years she worked at Bick Implement in York, then Lincoln State Capital under the commissioner’s office, and also at the ASC office in York.

On March 16, 1958 she was united in marriage to Eugene Ernst Reetz at St. John’s Lutheran Church. To this union three children were born. They made their home on the farm west of Stromsburg. Lola was involved in WIFE and worked along side her husband on their family farm working with cattle, hogs, sheep and many other animals. Lola worked for the Polk County Senior Services for 22 years from 1980 until 2003. She returned to the work force at the age of 80 at the Blue Valley Community Action. She enjoyed reading and gardening and once had a mile of green beans. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family. In her later years she enjoyed just being still and listening to her family laugh and reminisce.

Survivors include her children: Debbie (Rick) Runyan of Clay Center, Michael (Roxie) Reetz of York and Lorri (Roger) Marsden of Stromsburg; grandchildren and great grandchildren: Megan (Jesse) Kreycik and children, Miles, Carter and Max; Nicholas Runyan; Jacob (Riley) Runyan and children Kensington and Lexyn; Emmy (Devin) Gabriel and children Sutton and Harper; Elissa (Brent) Wolfe and children Layne and Dalton; Tessa (Cody) Zech and son Jude; Kjell and Channer Marsden; sisters Ruby Light and Theo (Roger) Rucker; sisters-in-law Janet Tieken and JoAnn Tieken; nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Eugene who passed away April 25, 2011; her parents Herman and Alice Tieken; siblings Laverne (MaryAnn) Tieken, Don (Alvera) Tieken, Gene (Veloy and Carol) Tieken, Bob Tieken, Randy Tieken, Joe Light and Lyn (Diane) Tieken.
