Linda Sue (Signer) Hengelfelt Obituary

Linda Sue Hengelfelt, age 75, of Stromsburg, Nebraska, passed away November 6, 2024 at the Midwest Covenant Home in Stromsburg.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 9, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Stromsburg with Pastor Duncan Ibuuri officiating. Visitation will be Friday, November 8 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the church. Interment will be in the Stromsburg Cemetery.

Linda was born February 26, 1949 in Salina, Kansas to Everett Franklin and Wanda Hazel (Day) Signer. She attended school in Kansas graduating from Abilene High School in 1967. Linda was married to Daniel Gay and to this union three sons were born. During that time they were foster parents for many children. While living in Abilene she received her realtor license and also was bookkeeper for a repair shop.

She moved to Grand Island and was employed as dietary manager for the Grand Island School system. She then worked as dietary manager for the nursing home facility in Wood River and then as kitchen manager for the Wood River middle and high school. In 2006 she moved to Stromsburg and began working as dietary manager for Annie Jeffrey Memorial County Health Center then for the Genoa nursing home.

On November 12, 2007 she was united in marriage to Alan Dale Hengelfelt in Yankton, South Dakota. They made their home in Stromsburg where Linda enjoyed cooking and baking, sewing, gardening, hunting and fishing, spending time with family and friends, especially her grandchildren. She also enjoyed volunteering.

Survivors include her husband Alan of Stromsburg; sons: Brian Gay of Stromsburg, Jeff (Crystal) Gay of Silver Creek and David (Alicia) Gay of Friend; grandchildren Dawson Wild, Weston and Wrenley Gay; nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents Everett and Wanda; brother Frankie Signer; sister Judy Cunningham; brother-in-law Calvin Cunningham, and nephew Kenny Cunningham.

Memorials are suggested to the family to be designated later.
