Leon N. Eller, age 83, of Shelby, Nebraska, passed away June 12, 2025 at his home in Shelby.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 17, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at Shelby Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shelby with Father Andrew Litt officiating. Visitation will be held Monday, June 16 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. with a 6:00 p.m. Rosary at the church. Organist will be Avis Rathje. Vocalists will be Rita Houdersheldt and Roy Houdersheldt. Musical selections will be “Be Not Afraid”, “Holy Is His Name”, “One Bread, One Body”, and “On Eagle’s Wings.” Pallbearers will be Brody Eller, Trent Eller, Riley Eller, Nolan Eller, Dylan Hinrichs, and Michael Denniston. Interment will be in the Shelby Cemetery.
Leon was born August 23, 1941 in Shelby to Richard Sr. and Genevieve (Zohner) Eller. He attended school at Dist. 52 through the 8th grade and graduated from Shelby High School in 1960.
On February 23, 1961 he was united in marriage to Sharon “Sue” Scow. To this union two children were born. They lived in Columbus for a short time before moving northeast of Shelby where he began farming. In 1987 they moved into Shelby and Leon continued farming.
He was a dedicated member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shelby where he was an acolyte for many years, and a member of Knight of Columbus. He enjoyed gun shows, cars, going to coffee, brunch after church and card club.
Survivors include son Terry (Brenda) Eller of Humphrey; nine grandchildren: Nikki Kuhr (John), Dixie Vaughn, Allie Payne (Dustin), Brody Eller (Erik), Trent Eller (Brooke), Brooke Hinrichs (Dylan), Kaitlyn Eller (Michael), Riley Eller and Nolan Eller; 10 great grandchildren; brother Richard (Kathy) Eller Jr. of Columbus; sisters Donna Hopwood of Shelby and Sharon (Bill) McMeekin of Columbus; nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Richard Sr. and Genevieve; wife Sharon who passed away August 17, 2023; daughter Brenda Hines; and brother-in-law Gerald Hopwood.
In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to Shelby Sacred Heart Catholic Church Hall Fund, or Shelby Fire Department.
