LeeVon ‘Curly’ Gerald Bernt, age 77, of Osceola, Nebraska, passed away February 24, 2025 at the Good Samaritan Society in Osceola.
Funeral services will be held Friday, February 28, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Osceola with Pastor Raleigh White officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the Shelby Cemetery with Military Rites by Shelby American Legion.
LeeVon was born May 25, 1947 Columbus, Nebraska to Kenneth Matthew and Virginia (Croisant) Bernt. He attended school in Shelby, graduating from Shelby High School in in 1965. He then attended Wayne St. College where he received a Bachelors in Education.
Curly served in the Air National Guard from January 28, 1967, stationed out of Lincoln. He was released from service on October 20, 1979.
On October 27, 1973 he was united in marriage to Nancy Ann Fozzard. To this union three children were born. The family made their home in Shelby.
Curly worked at Bernt’s Service Station in Shelby until it’s closing in 1990. He then began working at Shelby Public School driving a bus, where he enjoyed being active and following school sports. He also helped with coaching his son's youth Breakers Basketball team in David City.
He enjoyed attending 4-H livestock events for cattle and horses. He was a big Husker football fan, attending the first complete stadium sellout in 1962 with Bob Devaney as coach, the 100th, 200th and 300th sellout games. He watched on TV the 400th straight sellout game. Curly enjoyed the full moons on his way home from their weekly basketball games.
He was a member of the Shelby American Legion, Polk County Fair Board and was a former Shelby Volunteer Fireman.
Survivors include his wife Nancy; daughters Nicole (special friend Tracy Kolling) and Heather; son Jason; grandson Spencer and great grandson Barrett; twin sister Yvonne (Joe) Bennett; nieces, nephews, great friends and neighbors.
He was preceded in death by his parents Kenneth and Virginia Bernt.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the family to be designated at a later date.
