Kenneth Carl Burritt, age 83, of Osceola, Nebraska, passed away April 24, 2025 at the Good Samaritan Society in Osceola.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 1, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Osceola with Pastor Soonil Park officiating. Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 30 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the church. Pianist will be Insun Kim. Vocalists will be Erika Burritt and Gail Channer-Burritt singing “Amazing Grace, My Chains Are Gone” and “Softly and Tenderly.” Musical selections will be “The Old Rugged Cross” and “The Cowboy Rides Away”. Pallbearers will be Dick Wyman Jr., Randy Neujahr, Bob Zelasney, Maverick Williams, Gregg Kresha, Chris Hayes, Dale Yungdahl and Layton Burritt. Honorary pallbearers will be Erika Burritt, Brooke Williams, Elizabeth Hoffman, Alexis Burritt, Trina Williams and Avery Chermok Williams. Interment will be in the Osceola Cemetery with Military Rites by Osceola American Legion.
Kenneth was born November 17, 1941 in Osceola, to Carl and Irene (Grossnicklaus) Burritt. He attended school in Osceola, graduating from Osceola High School in 1959. After graduation he remained at home to help farm with his grandpa ‘Dubby’. He then enlisted on December 15, 1963 in the Army and spent two years on active duty until October 10, 1965 and four years in the reserves.
On June 24, 1964 he was united in marriage to Lynda Merrick at the United Methodist Church in Osceola. To this union three children were born, David, Debra and Douglas. He continued to reside on the family farm that has been in the Grossnicklaus family since 1884, raising cattle and crops with his sons.
Kenneth served on the Polk County Fair Board, ASC Committee and was a member of the Osceola Legion and Methodist Church.
He had a great love for playing baseball and softball for many years. He also enjoyed coaching baseball for the Pony and Midget youth leagues. He was nominated for the Nebraska Baseball Hall of Fame.
After his baseball years he took up team roping. He was an accomplished heeler and won several buckles and a saddle on his horse Smokey Joe.
Survivors include his wife Lynda of Osceola; daughter Debra Burritt Williams (Gene Matthews) of Raymond, son Douglas (Kim) Burritt of Osceola, daughter-in-law Gail Channer-Burritt of Osceola; six grandchildren, granddaughter in-law and one great granddaughter; sister-in-law Nellie Merrick; nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Carl and Irene; son David Burritt; grandparents Adolph ‘Dub’ and Rosa ‘Rosie’ Grossnicklaus; father and mother in-law Dick and Helen (Cerny) Merrick; and brother-in-law Robert Merrick.
Memorials are suggested to the family to be designated later.
