Joyce Joan (Shipferling) Umshler

Joyce Joan Umshler, age 81, of Shelby, Nebraska, went to be with her Heavenly Father on December 18, 2019.
Memorial service will be held Monday, December 23, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Shelby with Pastor Teri Lucas officiating. Organist will be Peggy Coffin. Soloist will be Rita Houdersheldt. Musical selections will be "Amazing Grace", "Go Rest High On That Mountain" and "God Will Take Care Of You." No visitation. Inurnment will be in the Shelby Cemetery.
Joyce was born July 26, 1938 to Carl and Doris (Rhoads) Shipferling in York, Nebraska. She attended York schools graduating in 1957.
She met and married a Marine and the love of her life, Walter Umshler on June 14, 1958 at her parents home. To this union seven children were born.
Growing up in York she was active in 4-H and garnered a love for sewing and could make the best bread around, winning many awards. She also had a love for music. She sang in choirs and never missed a choir or band concert when it came to her children and grandchildren. She followed her grandchildren to sports functions, loving baseball games the most. She was a homemaker and loved nothing more than taking care of her family and later cared for others by working in the public sector. She cherished all relationships including the friends she made at the Shelby Senior Center. When you couldn't find her home putting together puzzles or watching Hallmark movies, you'd find her at the center playing cards and doing what needed to be done. She loved life and her Lord and it shined through. Our hearts are breaking as we can't have her here with us, we will miss her each and every day.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Shelby.
Survivors include her children: Walt Umshler III of Grand Island, Teresa (Mike) Umshler of York, Debra (Bryan) Williams of York, Terry (DeAnn) Umshler of York, Kristi (Wes) Covert of Freeport, Florida, Carl Umshler of Fullerton; grandchildren: Amy, April, Dustin, Andrew, Kristen, Kiley, Lauren, Forrest, Josh, Makayla, Brandon, Tommy, Vincent, Nate and Cody; eight great grandchildren; one sister Betty (Darwin) Houck; nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Walter who passed away August 18, 2009; son Tracy, her parents, one sister Virginia Conolly and one daughter-in-law.
Memorials are suggested to the Shelby Senior Center in lieu of flowers.
Dubas Funeral Home of Osceola and Stromsburg has been entrusted with arrangements.
