Joyce Lorraine (Bayerkohler) Polley

Joyce Lorraine Polley, age 85, of Osceola, Nebraska, passed away March 10, 2022 at the Good Samaritan Society in Osceola, Nebraska.

Graveside memorial services will be held at a later date.

Joyce was born January 15, 1937 in Hoffman, MN to Clarence Bayerkohler and Lily (Grunow) Bayerkohler. Joyce was raised on a farm and learned cooking, canning, sewing, and animal care and processing on the farm. She graduated in 1954 and moved to Minneapolis, where she attended Minnesota School of Business and became a secretary.

She was united in marriage to Arthur Corrbett Polley in 1956. To this union three children were born. After marrying Art in 1957 they began with HAM radio and she used the call sign K0IKL. She became so adept at high speed Morse Code that she entered contests and won the World Champion title for HAM radio, as she communicated with people world wide. They moved to a farm in Staples, MN, where they started a horse business and she became an accomplished horsewoman, winning many awards. She also worked as a seamstress for several years. She was a 4-H leader and helped children in their horse, sewing and photography projects. She enjoyed photography so much that she convinced Art to start their own studio. This also led to them to both becoming private pilots and adding aerial photography of farms to the business. This brought them to Nebraska in the early 80s and they settled in Osceola. In later years they closed the business and Joyce started a new business of crafting. She was well know throughout the area for her beautiful dolls and pillows. Her other hobbies included reading, collecting bells and going to auctions.

Survivors include son Robert Polley of Osceola; one daughter Jeanne Masters of Seward; two grandchildren, Shawn and James Gallagher;  step-daughter, Catherine Desmond of Oceanside, CA; step-granddaughter Brandi Pavel; step-great grandchildren Kacey, Sidnee and Jordan; three brothers: Duane Bayerkohler of Texas, Gordon Bayerkohler of Arizona and Lowell (Marilyn) Bayerkohler of Staples, MN; and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Arthur who passed away in 2004; one son Gregory; step-daughter Lee Bender.

Memorials are suggested to the family to be designated later.

Dubas Funeral Home of Osceola and Stromsburg has been entrusted with arrangements.
