Joyce Knudson-Laible Obituary

Joyce Knudson-Laible, age 84, of Shelby, Nebraska passed away December 9, 2023, at Annie Jeffrey Memorial Country Health Center in Osceola, Nebraska.

Memorial services will be held Thursday, December 14, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at Dubas Funeral Home in Osceola with Pastor Hillary Christensen officiating.Musical selections will be "On Eagle's Wings" and "In The Garden." Inurnment will be at the Magnet Cemetery at a later date.

Joyce was born September 22, 1939, in London, MN to Hans and Lillian (Kumm) Suckstorf. She attended elementary school in Rising City and high school in Lincoln. Joyce began working at Tamara recovering furniture. She was united in marriage to Wayne Metteer, to this union three children were born. She then moved to Fremont and began working at Campbell’s Soup factory. Joyce later moved to Bloomfield and remarried, to this union one child was born. She worked at BD for 18 years until retiring due to health.

In the mid 1990’s she moved to Shelby and was a member of the Shelby Legion Auxiliary, Lions Club, Blue Valley Board, and a member of the First English Lutheran Church in Rising City.

On April 26, 2004, she was united in marriage to Ronald S. Laible in York, NE. They enjoyed trucking together and playing many card games over the years.

Over the years Joyce worked at various places including Flaherty’s Bar, CJ’s Cafe and Bogner’s Steakhouse doing one of the things she loved most, visiting with people.

Joyce enjoyed working, crocheting, quilting, thrift shopping, her animals, spending time with her grandchildren, and getting her nails done.

Survivors include her husband Ronald Laible of Shelby; sister-in-law Wilma Suckstorf of York; children: Charlotte (Dan) Alt of Shelby, Eugene (Dori) Metteer of Shelby and Joseph Peery of Sioux Falls, SD; step-children: Hally (Kurt) Ziegler of Bloomfield, Angela Weber of Creighton, Thomas (Gina) Laible of Merna, Dustin (Lori) Laible of Emmet, Laurie Steinhauser of Creighton and Shane Steinhauser of Purdum; 34 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren; and numerous relatives and friends.

She was proceeded in death by her parents Hans and Lillian Suckstorf; husband Wayne Metteer; son John Metteer; brother Donald Suckstorf; sisters Mardell Neal and Carolyn Kool; granddaughter Alexis Laible.

Memorials are suggested to the family to be designated later.
