John Edward Schofield, age 76, of Stromsburg, Nebraska, passed away November 29, 2022 at Annie Jeffrey Memorial Hospital in Osceola.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 3, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at the Stromsburg Baptist Church with Pastors Mike Brill, Darryl Knappen, and Dan Carlson officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Pianist will be Gayleen Nestor. Vocalist will be Lexi Eller singing “It Is Well With My Soul.” Congregational hymns will be “Doxology”, “To God Be The Glory”, and “Victory In Jesus.” Special music will be “Amazing Grace.” Honorary pallbearers will be Peter Carlson, Lance McKenney, Coleman Baker, Tatum Baker, Sam Twogood, Jake Twogood and Will Twogood.
Military Rites by Stromsburg Legion Post #132. Inurnment will take place at a later date.
John was born August 20, 1946 to Walter Allen and Anna Gertrude (Finn) Schofield in Philadelphia. After graduating high school he attended and graduated from Temple University in 1968 with a Bachelors in Business Administration. John joined ROTC while at Temple University. He served in the US Army in Special Forces for four years from August 1, 1968 to April 18, 1972. He served in the reserves until August 7, 1974. John worked in the health care industry most of his life. He lived and worked in various places including Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, and Arizona. Over the years he worked for several companies, Johnson & Johnson, Health Information Services, Micro Health Systems, Coopers & Librand Accounting, SMS (Eclipsis), TDS, and Northern Arizona Health System. For the last two and a half years of his career they lived in Qatar where he worked for Dell as Chief Information Officer and project manager.
On June 9, 1990 he was united in marriage to Cynthia Ann Baker at the Stromsburg Baptist Church. John retired in 2013 when they moved to Stromsburg. John and Cindy began raising Aronia berries at the homestead where they resided.
John was very good with his hands and was multi-talented from woodworking to art. He cared deeply for his family, friends, country and community. He loved Jesus.
Survivors include his wife Cindy of Stromsburg; three children: Dennis (Sandra) Schofield of Florida, Brian (Tina) Schofield of New Jersey, and Dana Schofield of New Jersey; four grandchildren: Tyler, Isabella, Elizabeth and Emmett; one sister Judy Rohan of Pennsylvania; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother-in-law Bill Rohan.
Memorials are suggested to the family to be designated later.
