Jlee Rose (Miller) Rafert Obituary

Jlee Rose Rafert, age 91, of Shelby, Nebraska, passed away March 21, 2025 at the Good Samaritan Society in Osceola.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 26, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Shelby with Pastor Soonil Park officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, March 25 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the church. Pianist will be Unsun Kim. Musical selections will be “In The Garden”, “What A Friend We Have In Jesus”, and “How Great Thou Art”. Pallbearers will be Tyson Micek, Sheb Johnson, Holden Micek, Ted Johnson, Brent Regier and Parker Micek. Interment will be in the Shelby Cemetery.

Jlee was born July 29, 1933 in Shelby, Nebraska to Ogal Ogden and Sybilla Belle (Augustin) Miller. She attended Possum Hollow country school northeast of Shelby and graduated from Shelby High School in 1951.

On August 16, 1955 she was united in marriage to Robert ‘Bob’ Dean Rafert at the EUB church in Shelby in a double wedding with her twin sister Jnel. They lived two miles east of Shelby and in 1964 a tornado took their home. They moved into Shelby for a brief time and in 1965 moved southeast of Shelby where they raised their family. Jlee was a farm wife and helped with all aspects of farming.

She lived her entire life in Shelby where she enjoyed gardening and sharing produce with everyone, canning, and refinishing furniture. She loved her family and going to the children and grandchildrens activities. She was active in the Shelby United Methodist Church and the Shelby senior center. She was a member of a saddle club and card clubs. She also enjoyed bowling, coffee gatherings and Wednesday social time.

In April of 2022 she moved to the Good Samaritan Society in Osceola.

Survivors include her daughters Loraine (Gene) Smith of Fremont, Jean (Kent) Regier of Henderson, Kathy Micek of Shelby and Peggy Johnson of Shelby; 11 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren; in-laws Don and Barb Rafert and Ruth Ann Barr; nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Robert ‘Bob’ Rafert who passed away September 27, 2020; infant son Daniel Glenn; sisters: Mary Belle (Frank), Donna (Lloyd), Florence (Kenneth) and Jnel (Richard); in-laws Harley and Marilyn Rafert, Percy and Gladys Cunningham and Guy Barr.

Memorials are suggested to the Shelby Senior Center or the Shelby Fire and Rescue
