Fred J. Richter, age 89, of Shelby, Nebraska, passed away November 23, 2023 at Bryan Medical Center West in Lincoln.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 29, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at Dubas Funeral Home in Osceola with Father Andrew Litt officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Musical selections will be "Scars", "Dust In The Wind" and "Daddy's Hands."  Pallbearers will be Tanner Hiemer, Joe Federico, Tim Ainsworth, Tim Hiemer, Terry Richter, and Jacob Ainsworth. Interment will be in the Blue Ridge Cemetery near Gresham.

Fred was born October 9, 1934 to Carl Fredrich and Lola (Walford) Richter on the farm west of Gresham. He was home schooled by a neighbor and then attended school in Gresham where he graduated high school. Fred served in the United States Army from 1954 to 1956 as a Medical Corpsman and drove an ambulance. After returning from the service Fred farmed in the Gresham area for many years.

On February 14, 1976 he was united in marriage to Janet Maureen Knight in Shelby where they made their home. Fred remained active on the farm and in his later years enjoyed going to the farm. He attended auctions on a regular basis and enjoyed collecting.

Survivors include son Mike (Sandra) Darling of Cedaredge, CO;; daughters, Laura (Joe) Federico of Omaha, Janna (Tim) Ainsworth of Seward and Lesley (Tim) Hiemer of Chapman; 13 grandchildren: Jenee (Jason) Livingston, who Janet and Fred helped raise until she was 11, Jo Ainsworth, Jacob (Skylr) Ainsworth, Tanner (Delanie) Hiemer and Terryn (Keith) Gress, Ashley Gerber and spouse Gram VanOrnam, Chelsea Gerber, Kira, Krysten and Michael Darling, Blake and Lydia Darling, and Emma Lambert; great grandchildren: Ember and Ashlynn Frerichs, Felix Vanmiddlekoop, and Mason Gress; he especially appreciated his relationship with his nephew Terry Richter who farmed his ground; many nieces, nephews, his cat Punky and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife Janet who passed away April 16, 2017; his parents Carl and Lola

Richter; siblings: Robert, Arthur, Phyless, and Donald Richter and Joyce (Richter) Hackler.
