Ethel Patricia (Black) Larson

Ethel Patricia Larson, age 94 of Osceola, Nebraska, passed away December 31, 2021 at the Good Samaritan Society in Osceola.
Funeral services are Tuesday, January 4 at 1 p.m. at Dubas Funeral Home in Osceola with Pastor Raleigh White officiating. Inurnment will be in the Osceola Cemetery.
Ethel was born March 17, 1927 to Everett Marvin and Ina (Hotchkiss) Black in Fullerton, Nebraska. For the first six years of her life, Pat made her home in Shelby with her natural grandparents, James C. and Belle (Davis) Hotchkiss. Pat’s mother Ina, died suddenly when Pat was three weeks old. She attended first grade in Shelby and then returned home to Fullerton where she graduated with the class of 1944. She then attended the Mary Lanning Hospital School of Nursing in Hasstings, graduating in January of 1948.
On April 25, 1948 she was united in marriage to Ray Walgreen of Osceola. They made their home in York before moving to Osceola in November of 1948. Ray passed away in 1989 and in 1996 Pat was united in marriage to Frederick Larson of Osceola.
Pat worked at the Shelby Clinic in Shelby for almost 40 years. She also was the first Director of Nursing at Annie Jeffrey Hospital in Osceola, serving for four years from 1956-1960.
Pat was confirmed in the Methodist Church in Fullerton and later joined St. Paul Lutheran Church in Osceola where she served one term as president of WELCA. She was elected president of the St. Paul’s congregation, and proud to be the first women to hold that office. She also served a term on the Nebraska Synod Council, the state governing body of her church.
Family was so very important to Pat. She especially loved her nieces and nephews on the Black and Walgreen sides of the family. Pat loved animals, she even learned to milk cows and do outside chores when she and Ray farmed south of Osceola. They built their new home in 1966, doing a lot of the work themselves. Ethel continued living in her home until moving to Grand Island in 2018. Pat then moved to the Good Samaritan Society in Osceola in October of 2021 where she resided until her passing.
