Eleanor Rose Eickmeier, age, 93, of Stromsburg, formerly of Benedict, Nebraska, passed away March 24, 2024 at the Midwest Covenant Home in Stromsburg.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 27, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in York with Father John Sullivan and Father Thomas Au officiating. Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 26 from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the church followed with a 5:00 p.m. Rosary. Organist will be Gayle Kloewer. Soloist will be Rachel Kallio. Musical selections will be “Amazing Grace”, “Be Still, My Soul”, “Ave Maria”, and “On Eagles’ Wings.” Pallbearers will be Matt Walford, Andy Walford, Tyler Klein, Brian Klein, Bob Klein and Holden Gabel. Honorary pallbearers will be her Godchildren, Jo Anne Walford, Gregory Eickmeier, Daniel Klein, Mark Gabel and Steven Gabel. Interment will be in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
Eleanor was born November 9, 1930 in Shelby to John Edmund and Rose Helena (Alt) Gabel. She attended country school southwest of Shelby and graduated from Shelby High School in 1948. She then taught country school.
On June 26, 1952 she was united in marriage to Richard G. Eickmeier at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shelby. They lived on a farm east of Benedict where she helped with farming and the livestock. She was well known for her cooking.
She was a member and the first girl baptized at the new Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shelby. She became a member of the Ulysses Catholic Church after she was married and they later joined St. Joseph Catholic Church in York. She was a member of Altar Society and also enjoyed her Neighborhood Club.
She enjoyed flowers, gardening, cooking, collecting figurines and dolls, cats, drawing, photography and took pride in taking care of her nieces and nephews.
Survivors include brother Norman (Karen) Gabel and sister-in-law Rosalie Gabel; many nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Richard who passed away May 7, 2015; her parents John and Rose Gabel; sisters Lorraine (Ed Klein) (John) Harbour, Delores (Paul) Meister; brothers Arnold (Ingrid) Gabel and Max Gabel.
