Elaine D. Hennings, age 88, of Stromsburg, Nebraska, formerly of Shelby, passed away September 15, 2025 at the Midwest Covenant Home in Stromsburg.

Memorial services will be held Thursday, September 18, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at Dubas Funeral Home in Stromsburg with Burdette Berck officiating. Inurnment will be in the Stromsburg Cemetery.

Elaine was born July 30, 1937 at home on the farm northwest of Stromsburg to Verner and Doris (Lindquist) Gustafson. She attended country school at Dist. 51 and graduated from Stromsburg High School in 1955.

On October 13, 1957 she was united in marriage to Harl Hennings at the Salem Lutheran Church in Stromsburg. To this union one daughter was born, Vella Rae. The couple made their home in Columbus. Elaine lived and worked in the Columbus area for about 45 years, most of that time she worked part time as a office secretary.

She was a member of the Columbus Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School and helped at other activities. She also loved sports and attended many sporting events at Lakeview High School in Columbus. Elaine did some traveling with her husband on their motorcycle, those were the good times. She also enjoyed gardening and flowers.

In March of 2003 they retired and moved to Shelby where she resided until moving to the Midwest Covenant Home in Stromsburg on March 27, 2025.

Survivors include her daughter Vella Rae (Karl) Welin of Central City; sisters: Betty (Dennis) Berger of Houston, TX and brother-in-law Larry Clay of Wakefield; many nieces, nephews and host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Harl who passed away November 2, 2016; her parents Verner and Doris Gustafson; brother Marvin ‘Whitey’ Gustafson; sister Bonnie Clay and nephew Pat Berger.

In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the donors favorite organization or charity.
