Duane LaClair Peterson Obituary

Duane LaClair Peterson, 86 of Stromsburg, passed away Saturday, March 29, 2025, at Annie Jeffrey Memorial County Health Center in Osceola, Nebraska. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at Stromsburg Evangelical Free Church with Pastors Jim Kappers and Leonard Suhr officiating. There will be a private family inurnment at 9 a.m. at Stromsburg Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday, April 11, 2025, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Stromsburg Evangelical Free Church. Memorials in Duane’s honor are kindly suggested to the family for future designation.

Duane was born on October 22, 1938, in Stromsburg, Nebraska, to Reynold and Helen (Willits) Peterson. He grew up on a farm northwest of Osceola and attended country school at District 48, where his father and grandmother were also students. Duane graduated from Osceola High School with the class of 1956 and proceeded to join the Army, serving his country from 1957 to 1960. On July 15, 1962, he married Marilyn Miller in Osceola. Duane and Marilyn made their home in Stromsburg, where he worked for United Farmers CO-OP, now CVA, for 40 years. Duane enjoyed fishing, boating, camping, hunting, and golfing. He spent many hours gardening, working in his yard, doing word searches, and assembling jigsaw puzzles. After retiring in 2002, he loved going to coffee in the mornings and helping his son-in-law harvest for fifteen years. Duane enjoyed attending his grandchildren's activities as they grew up. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Marilyn Peterson of Stromsburg; daughters Melinda (John) Widhalm of Omaha, and Meleah (Randy) Lundeen of Axtell; grandchildren Tobin (Kara) Widhalm of Elkhorn, Jarret Widhalm and fiancée Kayla Nigh of Omaha, Abbie Widhalm of Omaha, Erik Lundeen of Kearney, Kari Lundeen of Elkhorn, Adam Lundeen of Elkhorn, and Sara Lundeen of Elkhorn; brother Gary (Bonnie) Peterson of Omaha; brothers-in-law Myron Miller of Bertrand, and Merle (Cindy) Miller of Topeka, Kansas; and other cousins, nieces, and nephews. Duane was preceded in death by his parents, Reynold and Helen Peterson, infant brother Marlin, sister Linda Axlund, and sisters-in-law Rosann Miller and Alice Peterson.
