Doris Kreis Obituary

Doris Marqurite Kreis, age 106, of Stromsburg, Nebraska, passed away August 3, 2019 at her home in Stromsburg.
Memorial services will be held Friday, August 9, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at the Stromsburg Methodist Church with Pastor Dan Spearow officiating. Musical selections will be "The Old Rugged Cross", "Amazing Grace", and "Oh, Holy Night", sung by recordings of Doris. A private family inurnment will take place in the Stromsburg Cemetery.
Doris was born April 27, 1913 to William and Victoria (Olson) Hernbloom on a farm near Stromsburg. At age 5 the family moved to a farm near Osceola. She attended eight years of school at District 64, and graduated from Osceola High School in 1930. Through Confession of Faith and Baptism by Rev. R.W. Taylor on November 19, 1931, she became a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Osceola. After graduating Doris lived and worked in Stromsburg and attended the Stromsburg Methodist Church.
On December 31, 1939 she was united in marriage to Harry Kreis. They moved to a farm east of Stromsburg in 1949 and Doris then transferred her Presbyterian membership to Green's Chapel. Lynn Ann Kreis came to live with them on August 7, 1951, adding so much love, joy and happiness to Doris and Harry. The family moved back to Stromsburg in 1959 where they became members of the Stromsburg United Methodist Church.
Doris spent much time working with children teaching Sunday School, Bible School, was a leader of Brownies for several years and a 4-H leader for 29 years.
She was active in her church. She was past president of Mary Circle, president of United Methodist Women and held other offices at Green's Chapel as well as in the Stromsburg Methodist Church. She was choir member and sang for several occasions at church and for numerous funerals. She was also a member of the community choir. She was involved in many other organizations and activities including past president of Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, past president of American Legion Auxiliary, past treasurer of American Legion Auxiliary, and was in charge of the Veteran and Rehabilitation of the American Legion Auxiliary. Doris was named Swedish Festival Queen in 1970 and years later served as Grand Marshall of the parade
Doris' compassion led her to take care of people in their homes, including Minnie Morrill, whom she cared for for many years. She then began working in Nordstrom Grocery in 1946. The grocery store was then purchased by Lund and eventually it became Economy Grocery. She continued working there until 1988.
Survivors include her daughter Lynn Pomeroy (and friend David Cerny) of Stromsburg; granddaughter Rhonda; great granddaughters Amber and Shanna and their children, nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Harry who passed away in 1966; parents William and Victoria Hernbloom; three brothers Wilbur (Marie), Clifford (June), Manley (Elsie); one sister Mildred (Luther) Kreis; son-in-law Eric Pomeroy.
