Dori Metteer Obituary

Dori Jean Metteer, age 62 of Shelby, Nebraska, passed away December 27, 2023 at the Good Samaritan Society in Osceola.

Memorial services will be held Wednesday, January 3, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Shelby with Pastor Leonard Suhr officiating. Musical selection will be “On Eagle’s Wings.” Honorary pallbearers will be the grandchildren.

Dori was born February 1, 1961 in O’Neill, Nebraska to Duane Lee and Mary Ann (Gerdes) Finch. Dori grew up in in Norfolk with her mother, father and siblings, where she attended Washington elementary, Norfolk Junior High, Norfolk High School and graduated in 1979. She also did a lot of babysitting before high school.

She lived in Norfolk and worked at a nursing home and Taco Bell.

On September 13, 1985 she was united in marriage to Eugene Calvin Metteer in Yankton, SD. To this union three daughters were born.

In 1986 they had their first daughter Tiffany Sue Metteer. In 1990, they had their second daughter Angela Marie Metteer, and in 1992, they had their last daughter Kayla Michelle Metteer. In 1998 Dori and her family moved to Pierce, where she worked at the Pierce Manner and continued to work at Taco Bell in Norfolk. In 2000, Dori and her family moved to Shelby where she worked at various places including Taco Bell in Columbus, Midwest Covenant Home in Stromsburg, Osceola Food Mart, Osceola Good-Samaritan Society, Joe’s Quick Shoppe in Shelby and Mendards in Columbus.

In her spare time she enjoyed being with all her family and friends. Some of her hobbies were reading puzzle books, and going to Missouri with her sisters for a mini vacation. She also enjoyed talking to everyone. She was a very caring and loving person.

Survivors include her husband Eugene Metteer of Shelby; daughters Tiffany Metteer of Columbus, Kayla Metteer of Columbus and Angela (Andy) Adams of Shelby; grandchildren: Gavin Crouch, Kadin Metteer, Kallee Metteer, Sydnie Adams, Tripp Adams, Olivia Adams, Kynzlee Adams, Zachry Adams; siblings: Bette (Ron) Lingenfelter, Connie (Joe) Sackville, Amy (Terry) Martin, Jami (Tim) Koenig and Jason (Regina) Finch; mother Mary Ann Finch; and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father Duane and sisters Annette Pittet and Lori Finch.

Memorials are suggested to the family to be designated later.
