Connie Ruth VanHoosen, age 88, of Osceola, Nebraska, passed away June 8, 2022 at Emerald Nursing and Rehab in Columbus, Nebraska.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday, June 15, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at the Osceola Cemetery with Pastor Teri Lucas officiating. Pallbearers will be Allen Rerucha, Devin Rerucha, Ben Potter, Matthew VanHoosen, Steve VanHoosen and John VanHoosen. A luncheon will follow at the United Methodist Church in Osceola.
Connie was born February 28, 1934 to Carl and Ida Mae (Bridges) Cottingham in Opelika, Alabama. She attended elementary and high school in Opelika.
On October 20, 1951 she was united in marriage to Stanley E. VanHoosen in Opelika, Alabama. To this union two children were born. The family lived in Osceola where her husband worked for the Nebraska State Department of Roads. Connie worked for many years as a cook at the Osceola Cafe and then at Osceola Good Samaritan Society.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Osceola.
Connie had the gift of gab. She loved garage sales and shopping. She enjoyed reading, collecting Avon merchandise, cooking, Gospel music, watching the TV show Golden Girls and going to the senior center especially for Bingo days. She also volunteered at the Blue Valley Thrift store in Osceola.
She may have come across as a crabby old lady, but she would actually do anything for anyone.
Survivors include son Michael (Janna Gustafson) VanHoosen of Polk; daughter Joyce (Allen) Rerucha of Columbus; three grandchildren, Debbie (Ben) Potter of Lincoln, Matthew (Amanda) VanHoosen of Lincoln and Devin Rerucha of Columbus and one great grandchild Lucy Potter; sister Annie Joyce Deplanche of Prattville, AL and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Stanley who passed away May 1, 2006; her parents; three brothers, Ralph, Leroy and Marcus; three sisters Gaynelle Graham, Ruby Abernathy and Martha Coleman.
Memorials are suggested to the family to be designated later.
Dubas Funeral Home of Osceola and Stromsburg has been entrusted with arrangements.
