Connie was born September 1, 1950 to Vernon Leo and Vivian Doris (Dornburgh) Knerr in Stromsburg, Nebraska and grew up on the family farm west of Stromsburg. She attended Stromsburg Public School graduating with the class of 1968. Connie was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart Gerald Lee Sperling on November 29, 1968. To this union three children were born. They lived in Stromsburg, later a few years in Columbus then back to Stromsburg for the remaining years. Through the years Connie worked for Dale Electronics, housekeeping supervisor at Midwest Covenant Home, Ron Girard Egg Production and later began her own cleaning service and was bookkeeper for the family business, Sperling Tree Service.

Connie had a deep faith in her Lord and Savior and volunteered endless hours sharing her faith through her membership with the United Methodist Church, CMA (Christian Motorcycle Association), Walk to Emmaus and the weekly Bible study she attended. Connie served as a board member to the Walk to Emmaus and on committees at the United Methodist Church. Connie’s faith also shined through her love for her husband, family and friends.

Connie had a love for reading, even as a child, and would seldom be found without a book close by. Connie loved the mountains and spent several winters vacationing in South Dakota and Wyoming riding a snowmobile. During the summer months Connie’s passion was riding her Honda Goldwing trike with her CMA friends or on a ride with her husband Jerry. Connie was an avid bowler for 45 years, bowling on leagues in Stromsburg, York and most recently Columbus. Attending stock car races was also a favorite of Connie’s and she passed that love along to many of her children and grandchildren. Connie loved to travel and was often planning the next trip before she got home from the trip she was on. One of her dreams was to visit Alaska which she did in 2019. The trips often included stopping at a number of antique shops along the way. Connie also enjoyed a great love for animals taking in several pets throughout the years.

Survivors include her husband Jerry of Stromsburg; son James Sperling of York, son Jeremy (Tina Back) Sperling of Stromsburg; grandchildren: Daniel (Paige Sutton) Sperling of Stromsburg, Dylan Sperling and Carlie Sperling, both of York, Isabella Sperling of York, Logan (Shelby Furgerson) Sperling of Osceola, Breckin Sperling of Orange City, Iowa, Delaney Sperling of Lincoln, Taylin Sperling of Stromsburg, Kilah Sperling of Stromsburg, Krysta (Taylor Smith) Sperling of York and Jayden Renquist of Lincoln; step-grandchild Nate Clement of Gresham; great grandchildren: Ashlyn Sperling and Kamdyn Harlow of Stromsburg, Tye and Anabell Smith of York, and Carter Sperling of Stromsburg; sister Bonnie (Robert) Senff of Bradshaw; brother-in-law Don Sperling of Jacksonville, FL; sisters-in-law Betty (Bill) Schellpeper of Lincoln, Janice Kubicek of Lincoln and Darlene Daniels of Spring, TX; nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
