Charles Kucera Obituary

Charles G. Kucera, age 87, of Osceola, Nebraska, died Tuesday, February 18, 2020 at Annie Jeffrey Hospital in Osceola.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 22, 2020 at 10:00am at St. Vincent’s Catholic Church in Osceola with Fr. Thomas Au officiating.  Visitation will be Friday, February 21, 2020 with family greeting family and friends from 5-7pm at the church with a 7pm vigil service.  Organist will be Catherine Steele. Soloist will be Judy Vrbka. Musical selections will be "Amazing Grace", "Precious Lord, Take My Hand", "On Eagles Wings", and "Be Not Afraid." Pallbearers will be Jason Zelasney, Brandon Mogensen, Kendall Kucera, Keaton Kucera, Seth Kennedy & Micheal Vrbka.  Honorary pallbearers will be Heidi McConnell, Abby Bise, Lynn Mogensen, Mariah Kennedy, Keithan and Courtney Coufal. Interment will be in the Osceola Cemetery with Military Rites by Osceola Legion Post #91.  
 Charles  (Chuck) was born on October 27, 1932 to Louis and Helen (Svoboda) Kucera at Prague, Nebraska. He attended Holy Trinity School in Brainard and graduated from Brainard High School in 1951.  He joined the Naval Reserves in 1950, his junior year of high school, and went active in 1951.  He was an airplane mechanic until 1955 in the Navy.  On April 20, 1954 he was united in marriage to Wilomine A. Hofbauer in Lincoln.  To this union, five children were born.
 In 1955 they moved to Omaha where Chuck went to Universal Trade School and earned his Associate Degree in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning.  They then moved to Osceola and had various jobs- Triple F Feed Mills, Huck Rowan Heating and Air Conditioning, Co-op Station, White Dealership, and Plains Power where he retired in July 2012.  During his retirement he served as the Mayor of Osceola, enjoyed going to Casey’s for coffee, working on different projects in the garage, shopping on QVC, and spending time with his kids, grandkids and great-grandkids.
He was a member of St. Vincent's Catholic Church and assisted with building of this church.  He was also a member of the American Legion and was presented the Quilt of Valor, April 2019.
Survivors include: children, Vicki Fricke of Omaha, Judy (Lynn) Vrbka of Wilber, Nancy (Bob) Zelasney of Osceola, Daniel (Danielle) Kucera of Utica, Ann (Dan) Coufal of Gretna; grandchildren, Lynn (Brandon) Mogensen, Michael Vrbka, Heidi (Ryan) McConnell, Jason (Mallory) Zelasney, Abby (Kenny) Bise, Kendall (fiancé-Danielle Nelson) Kucera, Keaton (McKenna) Kucera, Mariah and Seth Kennedy, Keithan and Courtney  Coufal; great-grandchildren, Owen, Zane, Colin and Avery Bise, Maeleigh, Ava and Taryn McConnell, Jeter and Beckham Zelasney, and baby Mogensen.  
Preceded in death by parents, Louis and Helen Kucera, wife, Wilomine, brothers, Jerry, Louis, Andy, Ivan, Paul, Dan, Fran, George, and sisters, Imelda and Betty and all their spouses.
