Carolyn Pearl (McFadden) Sipes

Carolyn Pearl Sipes, age 89, of Osceola, Nebraska passed away February 18, 2023 at the Good Samaritan Society in Osceola.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 22, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Osceola with Pastor Soonil Park officiating. Visitation will be held Tuesday, February 21 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Dubas Funeral Home in Osceola. Organist will be Louise Wheeler. Musical selections will be “The Rose”, "How Great Thou Art",  “In The Garden" and "Hymn of Promise." Pallbearers will be Robert Engel, Richard Engel, Jason Sipes, Ryan Engel, Oliver McFadden and Bruce McFadden. Interment will be in the Osceola Cemetery.

Carolyn was born February 27, 1933 in Cass County, Iowa, the youngest of seven children, to Floyd LeRoy and Eva (Abhau) McFadden. She attended elementary school in rural Cass County, Iowa, graduating from Atlantic High school in 1950. Following high school she attended Peru State College, UNL and Platte College.

On August 20, 1951 she was united in marriage to Kenneth Eugene Sipes in Lyman, Iowa. To this union three children were born. The family lived in various places including Peru, Falls City, Fairmont and Osceola. Carolyn worked as a secretary, nurse aide and then a medical records technician at Annie Jeffrey Memorial County Hospital in Osceola. She retired in 1991. The following year they began spending winters in Fredericksburg, TX.

Carolyn enjoyed gardening, knitting, reading, camping, playing cards and volunteering. She also enjoyed spending time at the senior center.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Rebekah Lodge, and the American Cancer Society in Polk County.

Survivors include her children: Jayne Lynn (Max) Fredrickson of Columbus, Alan Wayne Sipes of Denver, CO, and Scot Dean Sipes of Columbus, Ohio; three grandchildren: Robert (Melissa) Engel, Richard (Candace) Engel, Jason (Krista) Sipes; six great grandchildren: Erin Engel, Ryan Engel, Sapphira Engel, Riviera Engel, Reagan Sipes and Charlotte Sipes;  sister Donna Peterson of Aurelia, IA; sister-in-law Shirley McFadden of Atlantic, IA; and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth who passed away February 9, 2009; her parents Floyd and Eva McFadden; grandson Jeremy Engel; sisters Genevieve McNally Lavett, Kathleen McFadden and Opal Frisbie; brothers Bruce McFadden, and Wayne McFadden; sister-in-law Helen McFadden; brothers-in-law Roy Frisbie, Wayne Peterson, William McNally, and Fred Lavett.

Memorials are suggested to the family to be designated later.
