Brian Patrick Gabel, age 44, of Osceola, Nebraska, passed away unexpectedly on April 7, 2026.
Funeral services will be held Friday, April 10, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at the Evangelical Free Church in Stromsburg with Pastor Keet Redden officiating. Visitation will be held Thursday, April 9 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the church. Pallbearers will be Brenden Gabel, Brant Gabel, Thomas Gabel, Michael Gabel, Allen Smith and Luther Roit. Honorary pallbearers will be Ted Pearson, Brian Frazier, Myles Wheeler and Dustin Becker. Interment will be in the Thelen Cemetery in rural Shelby.
Brian "Big G" Patrick Gabel was born on April 14, 1981 in Osceola to Christine (Kresha) and Patrick Gabel. Brian graduated from Osceola High School in 1999 then went on to obtain a Diversified Agriculture degree from Southeast Community College Beatrice Campus in 2001.
Brian's love for farming shined through from a young age as he started his first herd of sows at the age of 9.
Upon finishing college Brian moved home to Polk county and began building his legacy and love for animals, creating and agriculture that he would pass on to his children.
February 12, 2005 Brian married Heather Russell and they were blessed with two heavenly children and three amazing earthside children, Brenden Brian, Halle Graceyn and Brant Harison.
Brian's love for his children was undeniable, you could always find him with a hug, a smile, a surprise sweet treat, an encouraging word, stupid joke, all while sipping a Diet Mt. Dew.
Brian found Jesus at a young age and his faith was very important to him as he grew. He gave freely of his time and talents to help and benefit others. He was a member of the Evangelical Free Church in Stromsburg and was highly valued as he shared his musical talents playing drums for various church services and events. Farming was part of Brian's daily life that he loved sharing with his children as well as creating unique metal art, welding projects, tinkering on anything and everything.
Brian was involved in many areas of the community including the President of the FFA Alumni Association, member of the Osceola Cemetery Board, part of the Evangelical Free Church worship
team and a member of the Shelby Fire Department.
Brian is survived by his children Brenden, Halle and Brant, whom he shared with his former wife Heather, his parents Pat and Chris Gabel of Osceola, grandmother Mildred Gabel of Stromsburg, brothers and their families Thomas and Jodi, Ethan, Morgan, Adam, Molly, Alexandra, Cameron and Tristan of Lincoln; Michael and Kelsey, Alayna, Declan and Emery of Osceola, NE as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends that are left to cherish the memories made.
He was preceded in death by grandparents Duane Gabel, Glenn and Delphine Kresha and step-grandmother Ila Kresha.
Memorials are suggested to the family with the intent of a future scholarship in Brian’s name.
