Alice Mae McLean, age 89, of Stromsburg, Nebraska, passed away January 30, 2024 at Annie Jeffrey Memorial County Hospital in Osceola.
Memorial services will be held Thursday, February 8, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at the Evangelical Free Church in Stromsburg with Pastor Keet Redden and Pastor Leonard Suhr officiating. A private family inurnment will take place at a later time in the Greenwood Cemetery in York
Alice Mae was born May 15, 1934 to Orville and Ruby (Wurtz) Miller in York. She attended country school Dist. 2 southeast of York through 7th grade at which time the family moved to Benedict where she finished high school. Following high school she was employed as a dental assistant for Dr. Lyle Furst and later at First National Bank in the bookkeeping department in York.
On September 5, 1954 she was united in marriage to James Howard McLean in Benedict. To this union four sons were born. The family moved to Lincoln where she was employed at UNL in the Engineering Extension Department. Jim and Alice began traveling, as four years were spent in the US Coast Guard, from Connecticut to Washington State to California. In 1960 they returned to his mother’s farm in Benedict, where they farmed and raised livestock until January 1993. Alice Mae was a faithful wife and mother, while helping with the farming and livestock. She loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren and had a love for arts and crafts. She was a great cook and hospitality was her gift. She was very selfless, compassionate and a caregiver. She was also a prayer warrior and loved Jesus.
They enjoyed traveling in their motor home and seeing the country for long periods of time. They also took many cruises over the years. She especially enjoyed her family and was very proud of them. Every other year all the kids, grandkids and great grandkids would have a big get together.
She was a member of Journey Church in Iowa and Yuma, AZ and the Evangelical Free Church in Stromsburg.
Survivors include sons Max (Jeanette) McLean of Stromsburg, Karl (Maria) McLean of San Tan Valley, AZ, Brett McLean of Benedict, and Clark McLean of Anchorage, Alaska; 12 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren; sister Carolyn (Phil) Finley of Orange, CA and sister-in-law Carol Miller of Omaha; brother-in-law Larry Christensen of Mesa, AZ; many nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband James who passed away June 17, 2023; parents Orville and Ruby; brother Charles Miller; sisters-in-law Julie Christensen and Lottie Johnson and brother-in-law Carl Johnson.
Memorials are suggested to the family to be designated later.
Dubas Funeral Home of Stromsburg and Osceola has been entrusted with arrangements.
