Alan Bert Gissler, age 72 , of Osceola, Nebraska, passed away December 27, 2021 at his home in Osceola.
Funeral services will be held Friday, December 31, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at the Osceola First United Methodist Church with Pastor Teri Lucas officiating. Visitation will be held Thursday, December 30 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the church. Vocalists will be Julia and Eva Yllescas. Musical selections will be "How Great Thou Art", and "Trust In You." Congregational hymns will be "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Amazing Grace." Pallbearers will be Seth Gissler, John Johnston, Colben Detaksone, Mike Simonsen, Rich Lacy, Charles Hays, Charles Roberts and Don Augustine. Honorary pallbearers will be Cole Gissler and Carsten Johnston. Interment will be in the Osceola Cemetery.
Alan was born June 20, 1949 to Bert George and Velma Aldena (Johnson) Gissler in Stromsburg, Nebraska. He attended school in Osceola graduating from Osceola High School in 1967. He then attended Doane College graduating in 1971.
On September 11, 1971 he was united in marriage to Beverly Faye Osborn in Osceola. To this union three children were born.
The family lived in Osceola and Alan owned and operated the NAPA Parts store in Stromsburg until his retirement in 2014.
He enjoyed sports, especially basketball, attending anything his grandchildren were involved in. In 1998 he was inducted into the Doane Athletic Hall of Fame in recognition of his basketball career.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Osceola, Lions Club, Ryan Hill Country Club committee, Osceola school board member and volunteer on the Osceola Fire Department.
Survivors include his wife Beverly of Osceola; children Layne (Angie) Gissler of Malcolm, Aaron (Shelly) Gissler of Louisville, Dena (John) Johnston of Aurora; seven grandchildren: Seth and Peyton, Megan and Cole, Julia, Eva and Carsten; two sisters Joyce (Doug) Winfield of Fremont and JoAnne and Steve Bartek of Lincoln; brothers-in-law, sisters-in-laws, nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Bert and Velma; father-in-law Fred Osborn and son-in-law Rob Yllescas.
Memorials are suggested to the family in lieu of flowers.
