Agnes, the oldest of seven children, was born May 12, 1925 in Rockvale, IL to Raymond and Catherine (Keckler) Black. She attended school in Oregon, IL graduating in 1943. She worked for Western Electric in Rockford where she met her husband, Kermit. They were married January 15, 1949. To this union three sons were born, Raymond, Lyle and Paul. She and Kermit farmed outside Polk until their retirement when they moved into town. Agnes was a member of the Swede Plain United Methodist Church and the Polk American Legion Auxiliary Post 160.
Agnes helped a lot on the farm, always had a big garden and loved all kinds of animals. Her main hobby was crocheting. She loved doing that and you could always find her in her spare time with a crochet hook in her hand. Over the years she crocheted miles of yarn and thread into beautiful baby blankets, tablecloths, wall hangings and doilies. She had many requests for custom made projects and if she didn't have a pattern, she'd make one. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren as they grew up and as the great-grandchilren came along, she'd always comment on how big they were getting!
Survivors include sons, Raymond (Anita) of Stromsburg, Paul (Jo) of Bradshaw; grandchildren, Amy (Bruce) Bednar of Firth, NE, Erin (Ryan) Dickey of Stromsburg, Elizabeth (Dustin) Thorne of Shawnee KS, John (Amy) Lindgren of Hooper, NE and Adam Lindgren of Hordville.
