Elizabeth "Betty" Vrbka Obituary

Elizabeth "Betty" Jane Vrbka, age 88, of Shelby, Nebraska, passed away August 20, 2018 at Good Samaritan Society in Osceola.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, August 25, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Shelby Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shelby, with Father Leo Seiker officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. Friday, August 24 at the church followed by a 5:30 Rosary with Father Val Bartek officiating. Organist will be Judy Vrbka. Musical selections will be "On Eagle's Wings", "I Am the Bread of Life", "Hail Mary, Gentle Woman", "Song of Farewell", "How Great Thou Art", and "Be Not Afraid." Inurnment will be in the Shelby Cemetery.
Betty was born February 27, 1930 to Harmon and Helen (Alt) Augustin. She graduated from Shelby High School in 1948. Betty worked as an aide at the Shelby Hospital.
On February 17, 1949 she was united in marriage to Raymond L. Vrbka at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shelby. The couple lived on a farm north of Shelby.
Betty was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where she was a member of the choir and St. Ann's Guild and served as president. She was also a member of the Shelby Legion Auxiliary and Shelby Extension Club.
Betty enjoyed Wednesday at Good Samaritan Society doing Betty's Baking for over 30 years. She received a National Volunteer of the Year award from the Good Samaritan Society for her years of service. Betty was a 4-H leader, and a volunteer reader at Shelby Public Schools.
Betty was well known for her baking, especially her cinnamon twists, Kolaches and Kuchens.
Survivors include her children, Susan (Gary) Ott of Osceola, Jerry (Peggy) Vrbka of Shelby, Judy (Kevin) Kuhnel McWilliams of Springfield, MO, Lori Freeman of Lincoln, Cal (Trish) Vrbka of Shelby, Andy (Jodie) Vrbka of Clarks, Angie (Virgil) King of Shelby, Nancy Vrbka of Kansas City, MO; 19 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren; one brother Winard Augustin and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ray Vrbka who passed away June 17, 2010; parents Harmon and Helen Augustin; in-laws O'Tillie and Joseph Vrbka; in-law Alice Augustin; son-in-law LaVerne Kuhnel; brother-in-law and wife Leonard and Louis Vrbka; brother-in-law Pat Patterson.
Memorials are suggested to the family to be designated later.
Dubas Funeral Home of Osceola and Stromsburg has been entrusted with arrangements.
