Marge was born on July 8, 1930, to Anton and Rose (Cich,) Iwan in the valley north of Osceola, Nebraska. She received her education in rural Polk county and graduated high school at Saint Bonaventure high school in Columbus, class of 1947. She married John Cerny on August 1, 1949, at St. Mary’s Pilsno Catholic Church in the valley north of Osceola. The church, still standing today, resides on land that was donated by Marge’s paternal grandparents. John and Marge made their home together in Osceola where they raised their family.

Marge worked for years at the local drug store in Osceola as well as at Annie Jeffrey Memorial Hospital. Marge volunteered in the Annie Jeffrey Thrift Shop and was an original AJ volunteer. Marge and John were longtime members of St. Vincent Ferrer Church in Osceola and attended Mass daily. Marge continued attending and helping with Mass until she moved to Midwest Covenant Home in Stromsburg in 2012.

Marge loved to bake, cook, and sew for friends and family. It seemed she always had a project going. She especially enjoyed quilting and almost every family member was gifted at least one homemade quilt. In her spare time, she enjoyed playing the card game “Buck” with family. She was a member of the local bowling league in her younger years. Marge and John always had a big garden behind the garage of their Osceola home and enjoyed growing and canning an assortment of vegetables and fruits. Together with John, she enjoyed attending Husker football games and held season tickets for over 30 years. Marge loved very much attending her children’s Osceola Bulldogs sporting events and activities, along with attending various activities of her grandchildren’s.

Marge is survived by her 5 children: Jack Cerny of Roswell, GA; Jerry (JoEllen) Cerny of Kaneohe HI; Mary (Steve) Smith of Lexington, NE; Barb (Duke) Pousson of Papillion, NE; Kari (Tim) Kudron of Omaha, NE. 12 Grandchildren: Aaron (Carolina) Cerny of Boston, MA, Brittany Cerny of Atlanta, GA, Nick (Jade) of Houma, LA, Monica Cerny of Kaneohe, HI, Kyle (Heather) Smith of Lexington, Cameron (Kelsey) Smith of Lexington, Adam Pousson of Lawrence, KS, Darren (Pamela) Pousson of Thornton, CO, Joe Pousson, Jake Kudron, Sam Kudron, and Ryan Kudron, all of Omaha; 9 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters-in-law, Christine Iwan of Wahoo, NE, and Marilyn Iwan of Normal, IL; and many nieces and nephews. Marge was preceded in death by her husband John; daughter-in-law Ruth; her parents; 2 sisters and their spouses, Regina and Victor Cerny and Louise and Donald Cerny; 4 brothers and their spouses, Raymond Iwan, Tony and JoAnn Iwan, Leonard Iwan, and Richard Iwan.

The family would like to thank the entire community of Osceola, NE for being both parents’ (John and Marge’s) true hometown. Many memories were made in the 80+ years John, Marge and their 5 children called Osceola their home.

The family also extends its heartfelt thanks and God’s many blessings to the compassionate staff and residents at Midwest Covenant Home in Stromsburg, Hillcrest Country Estates, and Hillcrest Hospice in Papillion. The family is grateful for the care and friendships they all provided Margaret (Mom) during her last years on earth.
